Fusarium?
    #1056312 - 11/15/02 05:59 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

I was crumbling a cake, and the inside was actually purple-ish.. Now I was doing this with my bare hands, and didn't realize it was there.. I'm starting to freak out after reading more about fusarium (I'm assuming that's what it was). Anyway, after I saw it I dropped the cake in the casing, held my breath and lysoled the hell out of everything around me. Dumped the cake and verm layer in a garbage back and took them out to the dumpster.. I lysolfed my hands and washed them with antibacterial soap at least twice now.. anyone have experience with this stuff? It was only on the inside of the cake, which suprised me since the outside colonized fine.. any suggestions on what to watch for sympton wise, or am I just overreating?

Most likely overreacting... but I bet you wear gloves and a dust mask from now on...

... if you do get sick, be sure to tell your doctor the truth about what happened so that you are more likely to get proper treatment before anything gets too out of control.  Don't stress too much or you will make yourself sick...

I'm still here, and no realy side effects, so I think you're right..

and you can be damn sure I'm not crumbling anything without a dust mask and gloves from now on

shit, that's kind of scary. think I'll be using gloves too from here on out. also think i may stop my habit of lightly sniffing the jars after opening to make sure nothing is hiding.
