Re: Strain Questions HERE ONLY! [Re: Rose]
    #12811684 - 06/27/10 11:21 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Hello all,

I started off with a run of KSSS* last night.

I am trying three different LC formulas (honey, tubinado sugar, and LDM + Dextrose).
I also dropped some antibiotic into the turbindo
jar.  I have seen very good growth with this material and so am
using it as a baseline to see what the dosage of antibiotic does
to the growth.

I also inoculated seven rye jars.

I just wanted to poll the group for pointers on this species.

Any special needs?  Wetter or dryer? Does misting kills pins?

Well, whatever you can add will be considered.

Thanks!

Yes, I have heard this, but in my ignorance I wanted to check and confirm.

I will be spawning to hpoo+verm, will case with peat+verm, and
will use the LC to inoculate cakes (ground millet + verm).

So, I should have all the bases covered.

If the LC fails then I will go for a GLC.

If everything fails, I will try again.

Thank you for taking the time.

I believe a G2G transfer would be better.

..but I was thinking of doing cakes alongside spawning grain to bulk.

I am still in the PF-Tek phase (but case my first tray tonight)
and thought to make some cakes to ensure that I can at least make a print.

G2G is highly regarded for a reason....and I will surely use it at some point.

Thank you for taking the time,

JD

Well, I will remember to mention the group in the future...

...I bought eleven different strains from Ralphster.  No freebie.

Next time I will start off with "Hi from the Shrommery!"  ;0)

LOL.  I am happy.  (no worries Ralphster)

Will do.

BTW: I started into KSSS just the other evening.

I am starting off with three different LC recipes as a test
(Honey, Tubinado sugar, and Dextrose+LDM) along with seven grain jars.

I looked into it, but did not find any KSSS specific growing recommendations.

Good luck Ham!

Do you have a link where you found your light dry malt liquid media recipe?

I use light malt extract, dextrose, and nutritional yeast.
1.5 table spoons of LME/DEX per quart of water.
0.4 of a gram of nutritional yeast per quart of water.

Light malt extract and Dextrose both are found at the local brew shop.
Nutritional yeast can be found at Health Food and Organic grocery stores.

Liquid media used in this culture=LME/DEX.
1.5 tablespoons per quart of water.

Nice, thick Liquid culture.

Nice, thick liquid culture syringes.:super:

The LC formulas that I used were:

1. 2% Dextrose + 2% Light Dry Malt
2. 4% Honey
3. 4% Tubinado Sugar

BTW: You efforts are clearly successful.  (yeast...hmmmm ;0)

Take care,

JD

Good luck guys with KSSS.
My MS inoculation was a total failure.
Small fatass pins, haven't matured in +10 days, maybe even two weeks.
Finally Trich started to take over on some of the small fruits,
so just threw it away.
Now I'm in the process to try to isolate a good fruiter.
Here's a couple of pic of the mini:

This is like a week later!

And another week later

Ugh.  I feel for you bro....that was a nice looking colony otherwise.

Thank you for sharing your difficulties.  I am going to hit all the
various targets (grain, PF cakes, and anything else that I can think of)

I will report on my results.

Right on Ham.

I chose Pan-Cyan as one of my first set of strains.

I spawned three huge grain (rye) bags to poo+verm in seven
gallon milk jug tubs, one shoe-box sized tub, and my first
monotub (70 Qt)....all about a week ago,

I will report on what comes of it.  (and must put the
finishing touches on the now-dry martha that they are
incubating in)

I would add for the OP that another strain recognized as
powerful is the Azurescens....but I only mention it academically,
as it is a cold, wood-loving, strain and is not easy to
grow, from all reports.

Take care,

JD

(P.S. I never heard from you and chose Jalisco ;0)

Anon,  you are right.  Any goodness will be shared.

I did find a couple of good threads... (Shea, was that you?)
..but I will post what I can whenever possible.

I am SO making this stuff up as I go, I hesitate to expose
newbies to my thought process before I have confirmed results.

Not that I am afraid of failure (see my "DOOMED" threads ;0)

I have noticed a few things about P-C...i.e. it can react
harshly to being shaken.  Also, I found that waiting for
every rye berry to look like a fuzzy white caterpillar
means waiting too long. (It took pooling metabolites to
force my spawn action)

I did get access to a camera that should make posting
a log possible.

So, good point.  Duly noted.

P.S. The tubs are colonizing slowly, or so it seems to me,
but they are about 60-70% colonized and the few that I have
checked closely had no contams.

Are there threats introduced by agitating condensation on a
plastic wrap cover (with micro-pore taped hole cut in it)
so that it runs down?

This suggests another question...and a basic one, but I want
to confim...I have read teks that suggested leaving breathing
holes in spawned containers and others that answer slow
growth issues with "CO2 was too low.  Did you tape the lid?"

Q: When does one want zero GE, if ever?

Calling then Cyanescens might be vague, as there is also
a Psilocybe Cyanescens. (this is one strain that I would LOVE to find!)

Paneolus (aka Copelandia) Cyanescens are usually referred to
as "Pan Cyans".

Also, there are other Paneolus species.

Take care,

JD

Yes, and it's awesome.  I have an interesting domesticated Ps. cyanescens strain that I'm working to bring back to full fruiting potential, and I'll be offering it here when I get it (making progess).

The potency was much higher than cubensis, more enthenogenic as well, and it was a prolific fruiter:

Stay tuned....
