I've got a cambodian print for you if you need one. Could use one of your TCs if you have any spare (if not you can still have the cambodian)

¡Ay, caramba! Those are some wacky looking mushrooms. Can't wait to give these a try - I've got some of whyblameus's PE spores in agar now (thanks so much for the prints!!!) so I'll let you guys know whether they turn out like normal cubes or like typical PE

Sorry hamloaf, I think you've got it wrong here. People dose by weight (mass) and compare it that way. Denser fruits weigh more, obviating your suggestion.

I second this.
I guess so. Hamloaf was posting loads of total n00b agar questions just like a month ago, and he appears to have mastered it already. 1 month, 8 days ago to be exact:

Any p. cubensis. If you want consistency, do an initial multispore grow, then select a nice fruit and clone it, and use that as a master culture to start your next grow.

Since you want the name of a variety/strain, I'd recommend the 'Amazon' from Ralphsters Canada. Fastest colonizer/fruiter I've seen yet, nice average-sized fruits, and the potency was a definite winner.

If you try to grow cubensis of a certain height based on the 'strain', I think you're going to get frustrated.
Perhaps you could deny them light to stunt their growth. Or just let them squish against the top.
Or, you could grow a shorter species.
Or, you could use an FC that's of appropriate size for cubensis.

The first batch of PEs from your print were harvested from a cake last night, but although they're lovely looking cubensis, they don't look like PE at all. They had slender stems and fully-developed caps with lots of spores.
The only similarity I could see is that some seemed to lack an annulus. They were also quite difficult to pick - hung on to the cake quite tenaciously, and in fact I damaged the cake a little trying to get some off.
My friend has some LC brewing so he'll try at least one more grow and see how those turn out

My friend has all of those, but has only cultivated the Cambo so far. He was very very pleased with it (scroll down to see the rye tray) compared to other strains he's tried. Prolific fruiters and a very pleasant trip

MRCA is a Shroomery sponsor. They're good to use if you're on the Europe side of the World. Questions like this probably belong more in the sponsors' forum.
And yes, they're listed as unfit for human consumption for legal reasons.

So at least you're in the right place now
To use humans as an analogy: my family shares some traits like hair colour, intelligence, incredible good looks, etc. Your family probably share some traits (ability to follow instructions, etc) that makes you similar to one another, but different from my family. Fundamentally we're all the same species, so the differences are largely superficial.
They're still differences though, so if you're interested in exploring the different results you can get by cultivating different sets of genetics, then you should try out different "strains". However if what you're looking for is bigger/badder/different/better mushrooms, you'd do a lot better experimenting with various species and/or growing techniques.

Ultimately, if we're going to take strains very seriously, we depend on no one ever mislabeling anything, as someone pointed out. I'm very careful with documenting things, and I'm pretty sure I've never made a mistake, but I know I've come close to making one on several occasions.
Any strain I receive from most sources, including shroomery members, I take with a grain of salt.
It seems to me that Sporeworks are pretty trusted, and they allegedly do a lot of work with different strains and such, so that seems like a reasonable place to start in terms of identifying a 'repository'. Not to get OT here, but I'm not sure I feel the same way about the other sponsor vendors.

If they have the right nutrients, ample water and fresh air, appropriate lighting, and certain genetics, they usually grow bigger than that. Otherwise they grow to other sizes.
Sometimes when a substrate has loads of pins, they'll tend to be smaller. Fewer pins often means they grow into larger mushrooms.
Lots of variables.

Probably right. A member gave me a PE print, but in that end the print produced nothing but normal cubensis. Nice cubensis, but not PE.
