Your MP3 Collection
    #10555257 - 06/22/09 06:09 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

How anal are you about it?  Do you have it organized into folders by genre/artist/album like I do?  How in-depth do you go into tagging?  What all do you include in the tags?

Generally, I include artist, album, track number, and track name, but I've started tagging the year, genres and total track and disc number.

Also, what programs do you use?  I use foobar2000 to tag and Mediamonkey to rewrite file names.

Just a curiosity on my part.

Wow.  I wish my collection was that organised, but with 5000+ songs all acquired from various sources I just don't have the time or the patience to go through as intricately as you have.  Good on ya!

Any album i download off torrents is automatically organized with all info filled, but if i download one song at a time off limewire its usually disorganized. So about 7% is disorganized.

Nice.  I've never really gotten into the whole song ratings thing.  Never really made sense to me.  Do I need a reminder of what song I found good seven weeks ago? :tongue2:

My shit is so unorganized.
I keep it in typical iTunes organization, but sometimes people fuck up tags in torrents (which pisses me off), but I almost never bother fixing them.

I don't much see the point in tagging the genres. I have a couple genre playlists, but they're pretty open-ended (hip-hop, jazz, lofi, shit like that.)

I don't rate songs either, but for iTunes or the iPod it takes those ratings into account for shuffle and genius which can be nice.

I'm insane about my collection.
First I have the folder called music.
To be in this folder, you must be at least 192K or better,
Have correct ID3 Tags, and be a full album.
Then it is simply a matter of a file tree structure,
Artist folder, inside is each album.
I use Foobar2000 as well.
MP3Tag to obviously...Tag
And anything that is new, or messed up tags goes into the folder labeled Incorrect Music until above requirements are met.

Nothing is more frustrating than having mismatched titles, incomplete labels and the like.

Organized Music is about 60 gigs, incorrect is about 45 gigs

i use itunes on the computer.  I don't listen to music from it though.  I have my music collection backed up on three different 300 GB drives.  I've got about 31,000 songs or so.  I got into collection old grateful dead and tool shows years ago.  I've also got a lot of speeches and other commentary and interviews and such.  But on those Hard drives I went through a couple years ago and got it all organized really well (Took me weeks!).  Have all the album artwork with the right albums in the right folders.  I think it's organized exactly how I want it.  Anyway, i have almost all those songs on my 160gb ipod.  My music is about the only part of my life that is exactly how i want it right now.

Artist / (Release Year) Album / (Disc # if applicable) / Artist - Album - Track - Title

For example:
Peter Gabriel/(1993) Secret World/Disc 1/Peter Gabriel - Secret World Live, Modena, Italy, 1993 (Disc 1) - 07 - Blood Of Eden.mp3

or

Pitch Black/(2005) Ape To Angle/Pitch Black - Ape To Angle - 03 - Lost In Translation.mp3

While it may seem redundant to have the artist and album in both the directory and the file name, it comes in very handy if you accidentally drag and drop a file. It makes it easy to get it back home again.

60,000+ mp3's (650gigs) and i am the most anal fucker about tags you'll ever know.

I remove comments (most), ripped bys, ripping tool, copyright, web info and the like.

I keep artist, album, track, title, artwork, year, disc number and the like.

I use mp3tag and occasionally tagscanner.

I don't bother with a genre tag but if it's there already I leave it.

Anal about backups too. Not 1 but 2 terabyte WD Mybooks. I keep one here and one off-site.

Shhhhh. Don't say that out loud as I am not universally liked here.

Some think I'm a tad annoying while I like to think I'm completely annoying.
