wheres your source that ben and jerrys truly changed to hve presoivatives?
I travel far and wide for my information. You see I go to this place that some call a grocery store, because in this hidden lair there are purported to be containers of Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
Now for the really tricky part - you see I open these storage bins that are made entirely of glass, and pull out one of the containers. You still following me? Good. I know this is getting pretty complex. I then turn the container around until I find this little box marked with the word "ingredients". And voila! Guar gum and all the other common preservatives are listed there.
I am available to act as a private investigator on contract, should you require my services. But beware, my price is high. This kind of thing isn't easy, and it's not for the faint of heart.
UH...I'm pretty sure he asked for sources to prove that they CHANGED to having preservatives, not that they have them...

This question is invalid. Mars bar is the obvious winner.

LOL. Well when I was little I used to visit the Ben & Jerry's factory in Vermont. This was back when they were still owned by Ben and Jerry. The factory was open to the public in the summer for tours and tastings. They made a big point back then about how they didn't use preservatives at all, unlike the major brands.
This was before they even sold stock in their IPO. They were pretty much only available in Vermont back then, and select parts of New England. I still have the little ice cream recipe book my parents bought for me at the factory, and it made the point that not using preservatives was a big part of their value system.
They sold themselves to Unilever in 2000. Unilever is a giant European conglomerate that produces soap. They sold out because the grocery business isn't about who has the best product, it's about who has the volume and relationships with distributors to muscle their way onto the shelves. Haagen Dazs was using threats and intimidation to stop distributors from selling Ben & Jerry's, and it was working.
So they sold themselves to Unilever, who had the distribution network and muscle to compete with Haagen Dazs, unlocking the monetary value of the brand. But selling the brand's soul in the process. It was right when Ben & Jerry's became ubiquitous that they started using preservatives. They are part and parcel of the same capitalist beast. Hence my point about big corporations churning out mediocrity.
I don't blame you for not knowing that Ben & Jerry's used to be better. Unless you lived in Vermont at the time, you wouldn't have known it.
But let me tell you, it used to be the best ice cream in the world. Like heaven on your tongue.
Now it's just mediocre shit.
I tried it recently, and all I wanted to do was weep because I remember how great it used to be. It's my own personal tragedy

Not to be a hater, but weeping over ice cream? What a strange thing to get so emotional about.

Our taste buds were evolved to eat ice cream (at least us European descendants). Can you really argue with that?

It isn't really about the ice cream, my friend. It's about global capitalism, economics, mass production, monopolistic practices, and losing something you once cared about.
I used to go skiing and hiking with my parents in Vermont and we would visit that factory every summer. It wasn't just an ice cream factory to me. It was like a magical place of untold wonders and mystery. Kind of like Willy Wonka but with ice cream instead of chocolate. Ben and Jerry were like these mystical figures, much talked about but never seen.
So again, it's not really about ice cream. Ben & Jerry's was a part of my childhood. Their surrender to the evil machine of global mass production was like the loss of my childhood innocence.
And anyway, I didn't weep. I just wanted to.

Big Turks are thee best.

Quote:
The Big Turk is a chocolate bar that is manufactured by Nestlé Canada. It contains pink coloured Turkish Delight, which is coated in milk chocolate. The 60-gram bar contains only 4 grams of fat, which is advertised as 60% less fat than the average chocolate bar.[1] This is one of the key selling points of the bar, and allows it to cater to those who follow a low-fat diet.
