reuse birdseed

I'm using 1 pint jars with birdseed, pressure cooked using the poly floss method - i believe the temp got too high and the spores never germinated - is it possible to reinoculate the jars using the same birdseed without going through the process again? any help would be appreciated..

At what point in the process do you believe the jars got too hot? This may be a stupid question, but when did you inoculate your jars, before or after you PC'd them? I'm a little confused by your question. If after how long did you let the jars cool before inoc'ing them?

btw Welcome to the Shroomery.

first of all, sorry about the multiple post - it was accidental...

They were inoculated after the pressure cooking and allowed to cool down - i was using a heating pad under the jars and used metal rings to keep them off the surface - wasn't thinking about metal rings being a conductor of heat - the jars were hot to the touch before i realized this...after this they never started germinating - i haven't opened the jars yet...was hoping i could just re-inoculate them...thanks for the help

It's worth a try. I once messed up and boiled my substrate dry so I just re-hydrated and sterilized it again. This was with brf/verm though and not seed.

When did you actually inoculate your jars? Have you given them enough time to germinate? Unless your jars got over 106 deg F, your spores probably didn't die. I've had jars take up to 10 days before I saw growth.

OK, how long ago did this happen? If its been just a day or two, I don't see why you couldn't proceed with reinoculating. Maybe try one jar and see what happens. Personally, I'd start over from scratch and chalk this effort up to a learning experience.

Yeah, what Bruiser said!
