Type 1 Diabetes and Shrooms
    #10539947 -

I know I won't be able to monitor my blood sugar, but are there any effects on Type 1 Diabetics that shrooms do?

Some mushrooms, such as maitake moderate the insulin swings in diabetics.  No studies have been done on cubensis in this regard that I know of, but they can't hurt. We've had several members with type 1 over the years and they've reported no problems.

Sorry for the double post, just wanted to make sure this post was seen..Won't happen again.

Thanks RogerRabbit, I will be consuming cubes..And good to know no problems reported from past type 1 members.

I'm in enough control of my blood sugars to set them at a good level before the trip, and then suspend insulin delivery for the next 4-5 hours, so I won't get low blood sugar. It will go higher, but not high enough so I will go into shock.

As long as you're in good health and your diabetes is under control, I can't see why you would have any problems, personally.

You should be able to take a dose that will leave you fine to do your blood sugar and take a shot in about 5 hours or less.  If you need shots more frequently then just get a sober sitter that can take your blood sugar and give you a shot as needed.  As long as your blood sugar is managed you should have no other problems.

A sober sitter is always a good idea, diabetic or not.

I have type 1 diabetes and as long as you don't take short acting insulin (I have had a longer acting insulin still working and as long as I made sure I have enough food in me I was fine)  I have never been able to tell if the 'shrooms made my sugar go up or down.  but all in all I have taken many trips with shrooms and never had a problem.

i have diabetes type 1 and use acid and shrooms regularly.

Have some dextro enegry (fast acting carbs) and some slow acting carbs like a candybar or something near you and you will be fine. its better to be higher in your sugar than lower since you will probaly not notice when you have a hypo

Yeah i tripped last week and near the end of the trip I thought it was turning on me only to realize i was having a pretty heavy hypo so i popped a glucose tab and was fine. next time i will plan on not having too take short acting insulin during the trip, don't know if I measured the dose wrong or if I just miscounted my carbs either way looking back it could have been a bad day.

wooo low blood sugar and trippin could be bad, but im type 1 never had a problem just check your blood sugar before and have some starbursts or something to eat definitely better to have a little bit higher blood sugar than low, one time i was rolling and my blood sugar got too high to the point i threw up had to give a big shot and drink some water but i handled it well

i Have type two diabetes. Yesterday I did 7 gr ground up finely in juice. Previously I have only done 5. I have found that this methode comes on quickly (30 minutes) and predictably about 6 hours.

I was having an amazing journey hitting in 30 minutes coming on strong. I was in bed having powerful conversation with a friend.
robably after two hours (not sure ) I fell asleep woke up 4 hours later (6 hour total)
I could not be awakened during this time.

I woke up soaked from the sweats my sugar was 51 (low) either from miscalculating some insulin or a combination insulin mushroom effect.

Not fun. Also unsuaual to sleep in such a high level trip. But not unusual to sleep with sugar so low.

Sort of a waste of a really nice journey. I will be more careful in the future to make sure I monitor sugar during a journey more carefully
