Holes are punched backwards

You know on the canning jars you have one rubber side? And for PF tek you are supposed to punch them so that the rubber side is facing up? Well I did that backwards, rubberside down. Will this be a problem? And what is the purpose of punching them that certain way?

You will need to tape the outside of the inoculation holes. Just file off the sharp steel.

A buddy of mine never tapes his holes. Hasn't caused any problems so far.

No taping here as well. Just coffee filters on the lids.
