One mushroom blues...

Well, so far on the first two cakes I birthed and put into the terrarium, a week ago now, there's one shroom moving along nicely (although there is mycelium growing at the base), and tonight I noticed a pin on the other - but that's it. Is this unusual or indicative of anything that could be a problem? It just seems weird that one shroom would emerge like that, with not a single other pin that I can see on that cake. I do think that I may have birthed a little early (probably a typical newbie error), and so maybe this is to be expected. Any thoughts?
I want my shrooms to be as big as Anno and Moe when they grow up

hey I found that my cakes did not produce that many mushrooms when the ambient humidity was low, what are u using to humidify you're terrarium? try hand misting a bit but dont hit the cake...

I've got them on perlite, and I've been hand misting as well (with a drip shield in the terrarium), but things seem to settle at 90%. Just hoping maybe a few more days will produce some nice pins, beyond that one shroom (which has mycelium growing at it's base - isn't that indicative of low humidity?).

my friend puts a piece of black plastic bag under it, his is on perlite too. just so the light wont reflect up and the shrooms grow down towards it.

Not sure but I believe that indicates high humidity, sounds fine to me.

You're right, high humidity, but when working with cakes, you need high humidity

I was thinking of doing the same.. my few cakes that haven't pinned have been there about 5 days.. should I dunk before casing, or do you think it matters? I was just assuming the lack of pinning was due to the absence of enough water inside the cake.

You answerd your own question, if the cakes arn?t fully colonized then they will take longer to fruit. 2 Weeks is also the average for cakes to start fully fruiting. You?ll get the hang of it. When cakes are fully colonized I like to break them up into pieces let them grow together then fruit them. This after the first flush was taken.
