Do some actual research and see what it takes to get said games to run on Linux
I would never buy anything from anyone purporting to be a "linux game vendor" but thats just my own thinking....of course i also dont buy dvds for movies that are not yet in theaters...
I am talking about games being sold for LINUX and open source games for LINUX
I spent about 200 hours trying to come up with a collection of games for my nephews 6 months ago all I could get working was 3 open source games ON A NEW COMPUTER !!!!

nexuiz quake 1-3 unreal tournament enemy territory soldier of fortune tremulous
these will run natively on linux
the games i listed previously like left 4 dead, bioshock, call of duty 4, etc will run through cedega, a professional level compatibility layer like Wine but not free, because it is certified to work.
i dont know what games you tried to get working.

You do also have the option of buying any number of gaming consoles, a Windows PC is not the only option to play current games.
I find it quite funny that you put down the operating system as overpriced, and how people are forced to use such a sub-par operating system that happens to be the only system that runs the apps you choose to run. Seems like for such a windows hater you are a pretty big fan. Just looking at the scale of the program, and the complexities, upgrades, etc. I don't see how a couple hundred dollars is overpriced. I got alot more out of my $200 windows machine then I would ever get out of $200 spent nearly anywhere else.
Also, you do have a choice in the marketplace, ever heard of Apple? You can buy system without an OS installed and use your preference.
Windows 7 has not done me wrong yet. I love windows for programming just because of the familiar tool set that I've been using for years. Linux is cool, but I can hardly find the justification to run it since I have two other unix based computers in my house Mac OSX, and FreeBSD.
I prefer Mac OSX Leopard to XP just because of the additional workflow and eyecandy, but Windows 7 has natively incorporated quite a few little shortcuts and logical arrangements that have not regretting the installation at all.
I was able to install OSX Leopard with a retail Apple DVD, directly on my home built computer. Never had a single compatibility problem. I have a feeling this will all change in Snow Leopard though, and I might consider buying a MacBook Pro at that point, especially seeing how OpenCL compares to DirectX. I hope more games end up hitting the mac platform.
Every OS has their Pro's and Con's, but to say any of the top 3 are inferior is just ignorant. Most OS bashing is by people who don't know how to use something properly.
I hardly consider OS price an issue anymore either, most people would not consider it in the cost of a new computer. Those people who do consider it have probably pirated the shit anyways, or if not, probably have a spare CD key or 20 considering the number of computers becoming obsolete at such a fast rate these days.

$200-400 dollars for an operating system is outrageous. I know for a fact they could lower the price and still make profit.
PC graphics exceed that of which consoles can achieve.
You guys can stand up for the price all you want, I don't see why you wouldn't want to pay less for it. Especially when most of the competition is drastically cheaper, or free.
Why the hell would I want to buy an Apple? I build my own machines.

This is why people pay for Windows even though competing products are free:

the intel audio drivers are under device drivers > sound > pci sound devices > intel

I don't mind entering some commands here and there. I don't mind Linux at all, I love it in fact.
openSuSE is every bit as easy to use as windows to me. So is Ubuntu and many other well developed distros.
The only thing that stops me from using Linux is it's lack of the directx API.
For a laptop or netbook, I would be using linux though. I love the open source software, like open office and gimp too.

IF linux came preinstalled on your computer you would find it better is lots of ways than windoze Quote:

the intel audio drivers are under device drivers > sound > pci sound devices > intel
well what your doing is building a kernel now as close as it gets to doing the same thing in windoze is reinstalling the whole system witch means losing all the personal data on that computer reinstalling all the apps setting up all the user accounts and theres the matter of the price of the new version IF you ask me linux is light years a head of windoze on this no wonder people are jumping the windoze ship for apple and linux
matter of fact is that IF linux was an option on ALL new computers windoze would be a free download and totally debugged and hardened M$ real income is from apps windoze would be free just to provide a platform for M$ apps to run on or M$ would port all there apps over to linux and windoze would be a dead night mare of the past

But that's my point. You shouldn't have to rebuild a kernel to get your soundcard working. Linux won't gain market share among typical users until things like that are fixed.

and thing like this will not be fixed until the OEMs start preinstalling linux windoze gets the drivers wrong on some things and it's alot more of a hassle to tell windoze to load a deferent driver than it is to build a new kernel

Ok. Here's another question I have...So it appears we cannot use internet explorer but plenty of sites still only support internet explorer or firefox (which is lacking now a days in appearance). Is there a way to get IE to work in a linux based system without a bunch of hoops?

I use firefox on Windows 7 instead of IE. What's wrong with firefox? Even sites with flash like youtube work.

I don't know of many sites that only support internet explorer. Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Opera are all standards compliant. Internet explorer does things a little different, and some people program around it. Just because a site is broken doesn't mean you should support them by breaking your computer to meet their needs. I guess things with silverlight might be different though, but that is hardly any kind of common component in most websites

DUDE YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE INTERNET EXPLOITER
a huge problem with internet exploiter is that active X can not be turned off there are undocumented active X controls that can turn back on active X and give the active x program greater than admin access
just read an evil html e mail and your computer is now owned by who ever wrote the e mail no body in my family has used IE for 10 years and for that long nobody has had a virus or malware on there computer I would not be suprized in the least to find that the IE only web pages you talk about are spreading malware

It's quite funny. I don't expect everyone to keep viruses away, but its amazing how well non-computer people can maintain their OS when they use FF or another browser. People I've installed firefox for are running strong years later almost like they knew what they are doing. Then you look at their work computer and open IE and they have 20 toolbars installed when IE finally loads after 5 minutes.
If you don't know what you are doing with computers or the internet, IE should probably be your last choice due to security and design flaws. If you DO know what you are doing, I feel the same is true.

+1
This is so true.
There is also a script blocker addon, if you know someone who randomly clicks on anything when pop ups appear, this is a good addon for firefox.
