Dry jars

My first time cultivating, i think i screwed up on the measurements for water with the b.r.f./vermiculite/water formula. The jars look really dry. I've already inoculated them. Is there any way to get water into the jars now without contmainating them or should i just accept this and not make such a dumbass mistake next time.

All of my jars "looked" dry... If you dont see growth in a lil while, you COULD if you HAVE to, squirt some sterilized water into them with a syringe. How much? I dont know. Will this work? I have no fukken clue. Good luck.

Good idear Floyd, you can just resterlize a used syringe and squirt a few cc's of sterile water, or whatever seems just right, and it WILL work. Just take the same precaution as when you first innoculated.

What ratio did you use for verm/water/brf? And how can you tell that they look dry if its your first time, what do you have to compare it too? I remember the first time I grew i thought the substrate looked to dry, but it wasn't.

I think you should wait and see if there are any signs of growth before you go and add a way to get contams in... I'd use the water injection as a last ditch effort. Like skikid said, if you havent had any before, how can you know its dry. Patience.

yeah yr right, I think they could be too dry b/c all the info i read about growing in jars said that mycelium ta kes 3-4 days to grow and it's already been 6 days...so ii guessed that the problem was a lack of moisture.

It was 1/4 cup verm to 1/8 cup brf to 4 tablespoons water. Except, when i added the water before i had used all that i was supposed to, according to the formula, i could see a small "barely visible puddle forming on the inside of the glass bowl . I guessed that i had used enough water at that point and did not use all that i was supposed to. It's very VERY possible that the formula was left too dry, but you're right, how would i know what that would look like. I'll just wait a while longer. Then try injecting the jars with water.

If you have spore prints or spore syringes etc you could just re-steralize the jars/substrate and re-inoculate them if things don't improve. It's worked for me in the past..

If the cakes are a little too dry, couldn't you wait until it's at least partially colonised (assuming it isn't too dry for mycelia to grow) and dunk them? Or am I missing the point of dunking completely?

I don't think dunking a partially colonized cake would be the best idea, it would probably lead to contamination. I've heard of people injecting sterile water into their cakes, but to what success, I don't know.

I tried sterilizing a syringe and injecting the jars with sterilized water, but it let contaminants in. Next time I'll use the right measurements.
