My B+ hay is coming along!!!!
    #1053041 - 11/14/02 05:49 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Well, I bought some hay from the pet shop, pasturized it, then I spawned it with a B+ BRF cake:) I plan on using the colonized hay for spawning some more hay. I was wondering how well it will work for spawn. Was also wondering how much nutrients is in hay. The mycelium is tearing through it really fast, which is great. How much hay does it take to provide as much nutreints as one BRF cake?? Thanks for any help. My plan is to make a huge brick of colonised hay in a big blue bin, then just case it.  How do think it will work??

spawn to hay ration up to 1/10 is effective, i don't realy know about the respective nutrient content of both, as nutrient content between different hays/straws can varry signifigantly. if using timothy-cobb hay (mostly alfalfa) i recomend a higher [edit: spawn to hay] ratio, although i've enver had much better luck with it than when fruiting directly from a cake dunked before birthing.
[please forgive if the above wasn't at all helpful]

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

btw, another effective and quite clean way to break up brf cakes is, once fully colonized (inside and out) to empty them directly into a new(mostly sterile) zip-lock baggie, seal, and break up with your hands. it will take the mycelium a short while to recover if broken up realy fine, but once it does it will take off fast.
[this is probably old hat, but it might help others who are reading this thread]
