i innoculated a jar but how come only one out of the four points actually innoculated? the jar is almost half filled with mycelium now but if this happens again can or should i try to innoculate the jar a second time or should i just leave it?

*inoculation, inoculated
you should just leave it. one is all you need. more just makes it faster. trying re-innoc may lead to contamination.

Leave it alone , give it some more time . What temps are your jars incubating in ? If above or below the optimum range (86*F) it will be a bit slow . Also was jar completly cool prior to inocing ? If not hot spots may have occured , not to worry though , the myc you have will take over the jar . Good Luck

That happens some time. My suspects are uneven spore distribution in the water. It takes longer to colonize when this occours. Thats on reason i prefer dark syringes. May i ask where your syring came from? Homemade or vendor?

You corrrected him, then made the same mistake, thats great. But anyways, to the origional poster, just wait it out. You probably just had more spores in that one spot, but soon all will start to show growth.

my jar was still kinda warm when i inoculated, it;s stored at around 21 degrees(70 degrees). where do u guys store your jars for it to be 86 degrees? i'm not about to go out and buy an incubator or something. i got my syring from a vendor. i know that i should wait but is it safe to try to inoculate the jar a second time if this happens again? i'm not going to bother to inoculate this jar again cause it;s been around 3-4 weeks and the jar is half full

Incubators are cheap, easy, and very effective, I highly suggest you look into one http://www.myco-tek.com/TEKs/Incubation.htm http://www.fungifun.org/pf/incubator.htm
Both are great, the top link is better, IMO, just because its easier to set up and I think that styrofoam is a better insulator, but the bottom one is great because its big enough for casings, whereas its somewhat difficult to find a styrofoam cooler big enough for casings. What I do is keep my jars in the styrofoam cooler, and my casings in the rubbermaid. Works like a charm.

Cousin "IT" stores his above his oven in a cabinet , in summer temp is auto , in winter he turns it on(the oven) periodically to keep temps up . Is not consistent but is doing the trick . Can't wait for spring heat to come back ! So far average temp is 80*F , drops to 78 and spikes around 90 when oven is in use . Still with in the good range . If jar was warm at time of inoc. , that may have killed mant spores preventing them from germinating , next time let jar sit till "room" temp .

the little guy sells dark syringes. Really reliable service, fast too. And cheap.
