Sour milk smell = contamination?

I am using the PF Tek with 50 verm/ 25 brf substrate. I cooked 6 jars in a vegetable cooker for a little bit more than an hour with no foil on top of the jars. When I opened the cooker it smelled like sour milk. I innoculated the jars anyways and waited 5 days. I just checked the jars and the smell is getting stronger. There doesnt seem to be any mycelium growth or any color. Could they be contaminated?

i dunno what a vegetable cooker is.

Just boil em onthe stove with foil on top. I know this works dont stray from the tek to much if your new. Sour milk smell is bad, but they shouldnt smell after you sterilize them. This confuses me. Except for maybe a slight ricey smell or somthing but not anything that is real noticable.

use a PC next time and put foil and dry verm layer too

I meant a pressure cooker.
I guess the smell is more like rice, but it is very pungent.
When I cooked the jars I had the lids very loose, should they be tightened?
