Some people just add sides to the hood output. Kinda like this.
http://www.tissue-cell-culture.com/images/products/related/hoods/absol_laminar.gif

That seems a bit illogical.

If you have a blower and can get a hepa filter than why not build the box to go around it.

If it was that easy, people would do it.
'Laminar' means the air is all lined up. There was a Mythbusters episode where Grant used boxes of soda straws to get laminar airflow.

That seems impractical considering the straws will have to be decontaminated. I think something like those plastic fake cardboard signs would work better. Similar shape, but you can clean them in bleach easier than a box of loose straws.

Do you have a link or more info on that ep? I wanna see the results, I might build it.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that anybody use straws- just that it's a good demonstration of the concept.
I don't remember which episode it was, but it might have been one about gas mileage. They built a wind tunnel with it, I know that much.

Multiple layers, maybe. Like a 1x1ft block made up of layers of the stuff, with the hexes all lined up.
Come to think of it, the joints are going to make turbulence, and you probably couldn't do it with layers, you'd need a solid thing.
Like a laminar flow filter.

Question what is the point of all this ??  Why are you straightening the air ?? A hepa filter does the same thing and filters the air..
