hey guys, lets collect our farts, put them into compressed tanks, and combust them for energy production. I can see the new tv slogans now "Before you hit the hay, stick a tube up your arse, its not gay!"
maybe not.
Animals fart. end of story.

Not really.
Mass-farmed animals raised in profit-focused conditions are fed CRAP.
The food they eat is determining the methane release.
The foods these animals are fed are chosen to provide peak profit-attainment efficiency, without regard for the health of the animal or the planet.

Wiki:
Ruminant animals are those that have a rumen. A rumen is a special stomach found in cows, sheep, and water buffalo that enables them to eat tough plants and grains that monogastric animals, such as humans, dogs, and cats, cannot digest.
Enteric fermentation occurs when methane (CH4) is produced in the rumen as microbial fermentation takes place. Over 200 species of microorganisms are present in the rumen, although only about 10% of these play an important role in digestion. Most of the CH4 byproduct is belched by the animal, however, a small percentage of CH4 is also produced in the large intestine and passed out as gas.
In Australia ruminant animals account for over half of their green house gas contribution from methane.[1] Australia has implemented a voluntary immunization program for cattle in order to help reduce flatulence-produced CH4.
By feeding these animals the most profit-friendly foods (aka, plants and grains that are not even considered food to a monogastric creature, which have no demand outside of the livestock industry) these companies are choosing to contribute to the unnecessary production of mass amounts of methane produced by the animal as a means of coping with a very low-nutrition food source.
I can understand the problems with shed raised beasts and the shit they feed them.. but free range - i don't see the issue, even without us they'd still breed and eat fucking grass and leaves and anything growing out of the ground - which produces plenty of methane, they'll burp and fart no matter what they eat, they're grazers and thus spend most their time chewing and burping.
I don't see the point in comparing ruminant to monogastric. We evolved differently. because we eat different foods we have different digestive systems. If it has alot to do with the microrganisms, i'm all for intervening with "immunization". But really its missing the bigger picture, we've got to stop cutting down so many fucking trees - rather we should actually be planting more than we're cutting down on a global scale currently. Australia is a terrible example too. In a country, no, a continent, that size how could they possibly know those figures - statistics can say anything, and can be estimated and made up as far as anyone with an agenda wants... with shitloads of cattle all over the show, but the rareity of actually finding them in that vast land of Australia - those figures to me ring bullshit. Humans rape the earth, even the aborigines purposely burned entire forests year after year untill the soil was useless and desertified long before white man turned up. And IMHO, tax is going to do sweet fuck all to stop the rapage - it will be spent on something completely irrelevant anyway.
