Hit me with a few anecdotes about people that have gotten sick or died(?) from eating mushrooms that were grown on contaminated substrate. Or had contams on the mushrooms. Or sniffed contaminated jars. Etc, etc, etc... I'm trying to compile a collection to outline some of the dangers of growing. I don't want to put people off growing, just keep people informed

There was a post in mushroom cultivation about a year ago by Jaybin (or something close to that) that got very sick from smelling jars that had a yellow contamination. One of the biggest worries is getting bacterial meningitis... if it gets into the brain, you can have a very difficult time getting rid of it. I will do a search and edit this post if I find the thread...

Word to that, bacterial meningitis sounds pretty nasty too. I'm surprised that there haven't been more responses to my question. I'm taking that to be a good thing though. I'm certainly hoping that mushies are as harmless as they seem to be. I've looked pretty hard into bad effects and so far there don't seem to be too many. I figure that the real dangers are a) you pick wild mushies and you get the wrong ones, or b) you grow your own mushies and you grow bad shit with them. Either way, the mushrooms are not the culprit. Obviously there is still a possibility that one could be allergic to mushrooms in which case, bummer!

I cant actually be sure if this had anything to do with the mushiesi took on saturday but since i felt completely fine before im assuming contamination is the culprit. The shrooms were grown in a smart shop in Amsterdam and bought back by a friend of mine, anyway ive been bed ridden for 4 days with something like a flu from hell. vomiting, fever, cold sweats, muscle aches,  it sucks this absolutely the worst illness ive ever had, any ideas on how to go about suing this head shops asses?

My guess is probably not the mushrooms, but rather something you picked up in your travels. Either bad food from someplace you ate or a virus that you picked up along the way. The mushrooms I have seen in the smart shops in Amsterdam were beautiful. Anybody that has the skill to grow such nice looking fruit has the entire process down and would not be keeping anything contaminated. Even if they don't care about your health, they still don't want the contamination to spread and would get rid of anything suspect at the first sign.
