well got 16 jars pc'd and already ran into some problems. the damn polyfill pushes through my wholes that were made in the jar! so the jar the i tried nocing(GT and GC) up will just be recooked, hope this doesnt cause a problem. so with all the other jars that were pcooked already i just got some silicone and put it around the edges of the polyfill and im hoping that will prevent this from happening but must wait till it dries tomorrow to try inoculating again i was goin to make some really nice qt. jars with rubber stoppers for inoculating but dollar general doesnt sell the qt. jars anymore so ill just save them for next time i see some qt.s. anyways heres some pic.s of progress so far as promised.-

thanks for looking and wish me luck

looks bad dude, if that was rye(i've never worked with wbs) it would be way too wet and colonize very very slow if it did

when my rye does that its because the jars were not at field capacity when i loaded them, let the wbs dry a little more and make sure h2o isnt getting inside during your pc, either put aluminum foil on top or water proof tape over holes.
good luck

The first question i have for you is how long or did you boil your grain before you loaded it in to the jars for the PC.
From the pic i saw they were already burst before you loaded your jars. Then what happened is that they were engorged even more from the PC, and the end result is a jar of MUSH....which is USELESS !!
IMO .. try wild bird seed without the corn..i have found that the WBS with out corn tends to colonize faster and with less problems.

Yup toss that shit bro.
WBS is mostly a pain IMO RYE is the way to go. Soak overnight with Gypsum, bring to a boil, drain, toss, PC. AAaannndd GO!
Also, I have never used Polyfill for that. I have always used those Round Fabric Band- Aids to seal the Inoculation hole. Works well for me-
Good Luck My Friend

no problem dude, its in their bulk section should be under 2 dollars a bag, one bag will do 5to8(i dont remember reallly) pint jars
for rye i soak with distilled water for 12hr(if you do much longer they will sprout and be useless. you do this so the endospore open up), then simmer distilled water(that mean when bubble start to form on the sides of your cooking thing), then pour over rye in a strainer. then let drain and fill jars, pc for 60mins.....thats what i do and i dont get contamination, also i do two holes in the tops of my jars, one i seal with clear silicon(inoculation point) the other i cover with microspore tape(3m called micropore tape) or band-aids(they come sterile)
hope it helps.

Call around to your local health food stores, and find out if any are a "co-op". I pay $1.19 per pound for rye berries, and you get a discount if you join the co-op. They'll even special order large quantities for you if you want to stock up. 50lbs cost me about $50.

Hey Mako...here is an idea i just had...
do you have a colander for straining spaghetti..i noticed that the millet and canary seed will pass through if not careful...
you might try and use this to your advantage and run the water with a screen under it to catch the WBS you want to use....a bit more time consuming but worth a try ..hope you can locate some WBS with out corn, good luck brah
