Pink Floyd...
    #1050114 - 11/13/02 08:29 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

... kicks allmighty ass.

their songs give me chills and put images of grassy fields and clouds and other beautiful things in my head.

i didn't really get into their music until a few years ago but they still somehow remind me of my childhood. they captured something timeless.

Amazing Band!

Meh, much overrated. Their early stuff was good, like AHM, after Syd left, PF sucked really took a turn for the worse.

Syd was gone after the first album, "Piper at the Gates of Dawn." There are really four periods of Pink Floyd as I see it. The fourth and final incarnation is the only one I don't like.

1) The Syd Barrett days (1st album plus singles)

2) Early post-Syd days (everything was really a group effort)

3) The Roger Water days (Roger dominates the band, and pens excellent concept albums)

4) The post-Roger days (Roger Leaves, and remaining members hire numerous producers and songwriters to prop up their careers and create a pink floyd sound)

I was under the impression that Syd contributed to Saucer F.O.S. as well. I may be wrong. I like some of Waters's stuff, its Gilmour that I really can't stand. Extremly overrated as a writer, and especially as a musician. IMHO, a lot of his stuff is very boring, his guitar work is hardly what I would call exemplary. The majority of the thier work in the 70's, especially WYWH, and The Wall are complete crap. But then again, this is all my opinion.

Yes, Syd had one song on SFOS. He may have contributed to the other songs in some ways as well.
