Mycelium not growing
    #1049931 - 11/13/02 06:57 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Greetings,

I searched the FAQ and the archives and did not come up with any useful info. So, im posting here hoping for some insight.

It has been 14 days since innoculation of 12 jars with Golden Teacher. I have not seen any signs of activity whatsoever. not even an infection. The jars look the same now as they did two weeks ago.

my substrate (verm and brown rice flour) was sterilized in a pressure cooker. My syringe sat in the refrigerator for about a week before innoculation.

The jars cooled overnight before injection.

my incubator has maintained 80 degrees the entire time.

Could this be dead spores? Im not sure what else it could be since there are no signs of infection.... Thanks for any help in advance!

Could be bad spores, could be contamination that you can't see (bacterial). Did you inject the spores on the edge of the substrate where it meets the glass?

The only other thing I can think of would bacterial contamination. The signs are not always visible. Loosen one of the jar lids and take a careful sniff. Does it smell like sour vinegar?

Yes, I injected against the glass.
I just opened one and it doesnt have a nasty sour smell. These guys look just like they were just cooked. nice and clean. No sign of infection.

Weird. Have you taped the inoculation holes up? If so remove the tape. This tends to speed up the colonization but it's strange theres no sign of life after all that time

No tape... I just covered with aluminum foil and a rubber band. Very strange indeed. You would at least think there would be some sort of contamination showing.

Maybe your brf was treated with fungicide. Is is organic? Have you been successful with the same brand of brf in the past? Some brands of brf do contain fungicide which will guarantee failure. If it's not the brf, it's the syringe.
