Ahhh! Help my buddies' casing!
    #1049140 - 11/13/02 01:40 PM (14 years, 27 days ago)

Okay...  This casing is straight verm, 2 pf cakes, B+, temps at 71- 75, fanning 2-3 times a day.  It colonized and he initiated pinning, but instead of getting happy little mushies he has a bunch of round balls that look like stem material, like mushrooms without caps...  and the only actual pin-like mushroom in there looks like it has broken it's veil, but it's only like a few mm tall...   what the hell?  I think it's a humidity problem, but I don't know, occasional mistings is all.  Does anybody know what causes this and how to fix it?

I'd like to know the answer to that as well.  I see several of those on my casings too but not that large....
they r usually tiny .  And sometimes a cap comes out of nowhere, maybe the cap is sitting underneath it.
I've had some weird babies that have the cap facing the casing material and the stem forming up...like they r committing suicide
and taking a nose dive :D

Those r some pretty skinny fruits there on that cake :frown:  hope ur casing is doing better!!
If ya find out why its happening Llama, plz share with the rest of us!

I had one of those mutants in my last casing. It got to be about the size of my thumb, and then two fat mushies grew out of it. Mighty tasty.

I've been searching around the posts, it seems this tends to happen sometimes, but nobody knows why!  I'm 90% sure it's either humidity or air exchange problems, most likely humidity or misting.  Mine aren't that big yet, but they keep getting bigger and bigger, with no mushrooms.  You can eat em I believe, and I will,  but I'd much rather have tall healthy mushrooms than little lumps with no caps or personality.

It's only a 2 cake casing, so no biggie if nothin happens but I'm kinda disappointed to see a nice first flush just kinda fizzle out.  I have another 6 cake casing which better be doing good! (I believe it is, the 2-cake one was tough from the get-go)  And 4 invitro jars which are doing very nice for a first grow.

The pic is someone else's cake, I just used it as an example of the lumps that are growing on my casing, they're the same as those and I couldn't get my own pic.

oooooooookay you guys... I woke up this morning and found that my friends OTHER casing is also going the way of the lumps...  someone has to know what causes this!!!  It only has one normal pin, and all of the myc. poking through the casing layer went from fluffly to fleshy and lumpy.... please advise!!!  :frown:

what r u using for humidifcation???  perlite????
For some reason , i've noticed that on my casings (and cakes) i use perlite and i also use a fann to air exchange.
and i also get at least one deformed fruit and some tiny lumps (like urs)  ...i wouldnt be surprised if thats the cause
maybe using a more controlled and consistent way of humidifying ur casings will cause less of this problem...like a cool mist!

I dont know , just an observation .  have ya PM'd any of the gurus and asked them?

  Thank you a ton man, I was almost positive it was humidification something...  I've just been misting the sides a lot and keeping it sealed, fanning 3 times a day.  And it's not like they are just little bumps... I mean the enitre surface is covered in HUGE fleshy blobs of mushroom material, some of them the size of large grapes and they get bigger everyday.   Not too bad cuz I guess I can eat em, but not as cool as a happy mushy family.

It looks like someday, on some planet, they might've developed into mushies, but out of the ones that do have something resembling a cap they are all small and totally mutated and retarded looking, very uneven and just not... right...  :frown:

I havn't PM'd anyone, just this post and a lot of post-searching.
