Are my jars done colonizing?
    #1048716 - 11/13/02 05:49 AM (21 years, 4 months ago)

i incubbated my jars almost a month ago and for the most part they are mostly white. But some of the jars have sides that are not white yet. the growth here is extremely slow. what should i do?

Let them grow.......
Turning them upside down may help speed colonization a little bit by exhausting CO2.
Assuming you have them in ideal temp range, not really shit else you can do but wait on them to colonize...

Let them finish colonizing, especially if you will be growing off the cakes. Keep the temperature right around 85, turn the jars upside-down, and take any tape you may have covering the holes to speed up the process a little.

Based on what I'm experiencing with mine, I'd say let it go for at least two more weeks. I think I birthed mine prematurely, and now it seems like it's taking a little longer than I anticipated to really get going. Once it's completely colonized on the outside, wait a solid two weeks before birthing, maybe more if it seems that they've been slowing down.

yup, let the finnish colonizing...if you can still see parts of the cake that arnt covered in mycelium and you birth your cakes you run a higher risk of contam. also once you jars are fully colonized leave them for on more week, this will give the mycelium a chance to really start to grow inside the cake making it stronger and healthier.

From my experience I've found that taped up holes slow down colonization so take off the tape and give it another week or two.
