FUCKIN BUGS! What can I do about em?
    #10483484 - 06/10/09 04:36 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

In some guys outdoor FC; Dudes got a bug problem... these little flys, slightly bigger than a gnat, (the kind that fly around horseshit in a pasture) are all up in his OUTDOOR SHOTGUN FC!? Now, the ones he's got outside are doing pretty good, but the ones in his chamber are gettin SWARMED...so? WTF? what should he do?

Okay so here's what I know, (or think I know)

Coffee and tobacco keep bugs away...? but is that including flying bugs? and then there's this shit call Diamactious sp? Earth and it's supposed to help with bugs, and;but;so, is it toxic? Will it hurt the maturing fruits? should he put some in the perlite? Where should (he) put it? on the fruits? on the casing? on the lid? ...WHERE!?

Any help/advice with this problem is MUCH APPRECIATED!
-see you on the other side-
peace.

-Fellowgrower

Those are sciarid or phorid flies.  They are there because the fruiting area is too closed up in the chamber.  The flies like the staler air.  You will probably have to move it outside outside.  Some bugs are normal and just part of outdoor growing.

And just because they are swarming doesn't mean they are eating the fruits or making worms.  As longs as you pick fruits right when they mature they wont eat into them much.

Evolution is Lamarckism in disguise.  Adaptation never creates a new species or trait, but rather the new species/trait always existed within the parent DNA until circumstances allowed it to be activated.  For instance, every wolf has the DNA for poodles, but that DNA would never be revealed without man selectively breeding for it.

Thanks Uncle Rico! Exactly the info I needed! turns out that the problem is that his perlite is too wet! ...and like buckeye said, they're not that big of a nussiance, they land on the fruit and walk around alot, but, They don't eat much...and they can have as much as they want, I'm just gonna change my attitude about it... now they're welcome to whatever they want...PROBLEM SOLVED!

Its so funny how some of the biggest "Problems" we face in life can be solved, simply by changing your attitude!

yeah, and its also funny how your mom can... no, no, let me calm down, I'm on thin ice with these people; they told me I was still allowed to come in; provided that I kept quiet to the back, and not smoke:fearandloathing:

Moldem, I tell you what, you have a lovely day! and thanks for sharing your input!

-see? just I just change the attitude-

God damn fruit flies!

Last summer i had a huge fruit fly problem in my flat. There were thousands and thousands of them. I lay traps, bottles of fermintnig stuff and literaly kill thousands of them to the point there was just 1 or 2 fruit flys that couldnt be cought.

Then the next day thousands of them again. Thank fuck winter killed them off.

Now that its coming to summer i need to keep this place clean!

Heres what I was thinking about the other day... You know the "Penny Tek" (where you make a ring of pennies around a patch) ...who figured that out? I mean, what kind of sick fuck is going around studying the likes and dislikes of SLUGS!?  (...I'm glad they did)  but who the fuck was the first person to figure that out about slugs???

Wierd shit man, Wierd shit.

The stress factor goes WAAAAAY down when you know your odds of gettin busted are like one in a million... ya know?  So I say fuck the bugs, It's better than gettin busted! (read my story in my sig)

:mad::hulk::hulk::hulk::mad2::sad::hulk:

I had about 10 nice little baby mushrooms last night, I think (to myself), "I'll just let grow out a lil and pick em in the morning", ...I go out this morning, ...nothin' just slime!!! those lil bastards DEVOURED my entire little flush in 10 hours!!! :wtf:

For some reason, i trusted that the penny fence would keep them out:confused:

WRONG!!!

...so now what?

why do you need a shotgun fc outside anyway?  get an old tire- a used substrate and a handful of straw.  i have four tires under a tree outside and i get SO much from them every week.  This is from 4th flush or more used colonized subs.  Mother nature makes it easy!

The answer is a easy one. You'll need a can a small muffin type fan and a light.

fill the can with water and a little soap
put the fan on top of the can so it blows down into the water
hang a light above the fan, close.

Fly's head for light get sucked up by fan and then drown. IE they head to the light, permanently....

Had the same problem off and on,and have tried a lot of things, the can, fan, and light works the best also fly tapes also help.

SHagnito, Nice avatar! ...and can ya point me a "Tire Tek" and hmmmmm?:confused2: WHere to find old tires? ...and how shall I wheel them inconspicuously into the woods?:confused2:

oh, and the shotgun FC' outside is long story...but that's what I'm working with! (for now)

Mule; That is a FANTASTIC idea, problem is, It out in an old barn in the middle of the woods; hence, no electricity... and I would imagine the fan would blow out a candle! lol. wait, that didn't make sense? as I would need electicity for the fan! lol.

Love that sig btw; Thats gonna be my "New Phrase" when people tell me I'm crazy! (happens all the time)
