I actually have, after running one day for about twenty minutes. Except mine occurred in my right peripheral vision. Not right eye, right peripheral. It was very weird, but what you describe is very similar to what happened to me. All the info I found said that it was harmless, but it was still very interesting and scary.
I think it may have been associated with the adderall I took earlier in the day, even though it was only 20 mg.

After the scotoma escaped my field of vision, I was unable to move very well at all. I was uncoordinated, my speech was messed up, and I felt detached from my body... as if I had taken some sort of dissociative drug. Still, these are common symptoms of an ocular migraine, nothing to be alarmed about.
kind of sounds like brain damage

Yep, I had it happen to me a few years back. I was on lunch break eating my lunch and it started to happen. I freaked the fuck out and called my mom (who worked in the optical field). She told me what was going on so I just sat back and watched it. No migraine resulted from it though.

There is a film called 'The Aura' which peripherally, and vaguely, examines the coming-ons of epileptic attacks. The Aura on Wikipedia
The scene in which he wakes up from a seizure to an intrigued buck is amazing.

It happened to me twice this year at work. I had to just kind of ignore it. That's so awesome you found this!! I was wondering what the fuck happened to me, it was so strange. That picture depicts it great.

I get the EXACT same aura!!! Let me tell you, you are SO lucky that it is not followed by the pain, vomiting, and intense suffering that many experience. I have often said that I would enjoy the aura if it were not for what inevitably follows it- at least 12 hours of the most intense pain I have ever felt. I also feel a strange mood shift and disassociation when this happens, it is very odd. I have gotten these since I was 12, and I clearly remember the first time this happened in school- first a tiny speck in the center of my vision, which slowly grew until I couldn't see the chalkboard, in a C-shape on either the left or right side (it seems to alternate with each migraine). I thought I was dying!

I too have been experiencing this since i was a little kid. The first time it happened to me i was in school as well. At times my vision would get so impaired that i would have to go home, which was going to happen anyways because of the intense headache that was inevitably going to come.
I experience these quite often, anywhere from 1-3 times a month. Half the time it slowly fades away and it's gone within 30-45 minutes or so. But like you mentioned, the people that get by with out the other painful symptoms are lucky. The other 1/2 of the time as my vision is coming back to normal, i am slammed with a intense migraine headache.
My mom and her side of the family has a history of migraines. She seemed to get them much worse than i do though, she would get the whole 9 yards, nausea and everything. I'm just always left with pounding in my head and feeling like shit.
Some weed always seems to help though....

Mine happened around 16 or 17. I'm 24 now and haven't had one since.

I have these same sort of spontaneous out of body experiences fairly often, where the entire frequency shifts and I enter some sort of suspended animation. I used to be like WTF, but now I'm just like cool and go with the flow and enjoy the ride.
