By doing alot of reading on mushrooms these past few weeks I'm guessing this season doesn't start until at least until the end of June, can't wait though I've got quite a few spots scoped out as good growing grounds for shrooms, plan to upload some pics when I find em. Only thing I managed to see were those huge shelf ones on tree's.

Pennsylvania Gymnopilus aeruginosus Gymnopilus junonius Gymnopilus luteofolius Gymnopilus luteus Panaeolus cinctulus Pluteus salicinus Psilocybe caerulipes Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata Psilocybe semilanceata (very rare)
You could be out finding Ovoids.
Look along river systems, their out there.
My camera charger is on order so I'll be able to get some great habitat shots and identification photos. I picked so many I hope there's still some left for me to photograph.

Look for the Japanese knotweed, itchweed, and jewel-weed concentration in overflow areas around hardwoods.

I'm not too well informed when it comes to morels but a lot of guys around here are. Mr. Mushrooms obviously knows a lot he found about 2million pounds of them. Then again he's just very informed about mushrooms in general.
However, the majority of the morels I have found are near and around the ovoids.

I've been walking around a park complete with woodchips, dead rotting trees/branches, overflow areas, shady and full sun areas and everything in between, hills, plateus, and flat valleys, and I have found absolute shit there. Only about 3 non edibles and those shelf ones that grow on trees. I usually go 1-2 days after a good rain but I dunno...I might have to give up as I'm becoming quite discouraged by my lack of findings.
Would I have a better chance near the main trail, or deep into the thick? I've tried both areas but only spent a total of a few hours hunting around, if I knew what habitat to look for specifically I could do a more extensive search.
Thanks if anyone replies to this rant and btw I'm from PA too.

If it has been raining you really should be finding more mushrooms. Check more different habitats.

That depends entirely on which species you are looking for.

You are going to need to spend more than just a few hours walking around. I hunted mushrooms for about 30 hours just this weekend alone.

I'm from PA also. Have you considered venturing out onto farm lands (with permission)?

PA hear too, specifically, SE. I kinda grew up hunting mushrooms with my family, mainly chanterelle and porcini. I started looking for actives in 2004. I have yet to find anything but Amanita muscaria var. Formosa! tons of them LOL
I know for a fact that Ovoids grow south of me and to the west. Actually the first place they were officially documented is the next county west!!!! I've spent countless hours in the right type of habitat(riparian). I spend just about all of my free time looking for any kind of mushroom. I have been lucky enough to find a lot of chanterelles. I've identified just about every indicator species of plant and tree. But still no Ovoids... Eventually I'll head west, but not before I find some in my local!
Now, I'm not asking for help from anyone, but the Gods!
Meh I wish I lived in SW PA!
