I have experimented before in the past, and I have tried various mixes I read about online.
but I want to know from you, the people.....
What is your fav soil mix for perekiopsis? I know these are simple to grow, but the better the mix, the quicker the growth, and the healthier the perekiopsis will be.
What is your fav soil mix for sprouting peyote seeds? And what about trich seeds?, same mix as peyote seeds? or different.
And finally, I am going to experiment(again) I am going to take a commercail cactus soil that consists of peatmoss, humus, compost perlite and sand, and try it for sprouting cacti seeds, and growing perekiopsis. Also, I will try the same mix with a bit of verm mixed in as well.
THANKS

I tried mixing my own... 40 % sandy soil 30 % perlite 15% coir 15 % verm worked ok... sprouts from seeds are about 18 months old now.
But I've had great results with the Schultz bagged cacti mix available at Walmart for $1.97 a bag.
And in a recent trade I recieved some good trich bri. seeds that sprouted 8/20 in the Schultz mix.

For Pereskiopsis I just use commercial potting compost, I've never tried it with a more cactusey mix as from what I've seen & been told it doesn't do too well in drier faster draining soils.

Fox Farm organic soil is top notch. Settle for nothing less when it come to peyote. Mix w/ 50% perlite.
-------------------- On storing pedro tea... Brewmaster: Well, the mescaline will still be in there, but I'd be afraid of it conjealing and trying to escape after it grew in size from eating all the other shit in my fridge, and possibly my dogs if it got out. Pithlit: sentient drugs, now that is an idea ... OneMoreRobot: Idea? It's a fuckin' reality. You know Salvia? Nigga stole my TV.

I really don't recommend using vermiculite in cactus soil mixes. It's too retentive. I just use a store-bought cactus soil mixed with almost 50% perlite. Also, I throw in some lime to the mixture.

Peresks: 40% coir 25% verm 25% native soil 10% Compost
Peresks grow in just about anything... but for guarenteed rooting I use this mix. All my peresks are potted and recieve doses every 3 weeks of fish emulsion, spring through summer. They grow insanely fast, even climbed up a tree of mine. Bitch to maintain at such a large size (damn glochids!)
Cactus: 40% native soil 20% verm 20% compost 10% coir 10% fine gravel
Good stuff. Though many cacti really belong in the ground, I have plenty in pots. This mix is more suitable for pachanoi, and other columnar cactus. For succulents and such I would adjust the percentages or just use this rooting mix amended with compost.
Seed/Rooting Mix: 30% coir 30% fine verm 25% very fine crushed rock (or sand) 15% fine perlite.
A little gnome told me this recipe. Has worked for me!

Hi guys, Im new to the community and been reading the advice from the others on the board. I have experimented with a couple of different growing techniques. So far the best for germinating my loph, trich, asterias seeds has been ferry morse organic seed starter 50% and coarse sand 50% (sterilized). This has worked great. I know alot of people on the board are against the jiffy greenhouses with the peat pellets but man they seem to germinate all the time I have used them. Difference is I sowed them on the surface of the pellet and spread a little coarse sand on top. when they toppled over I transplanted them to my cactus mix. I have even experimented with an asterias seed and loph seed using a napkin. Amazingly it worked and when they were about 1/4" I transpalnted them in the cactus mix I use.
