 How many PFtek BRF cakes would I need to spawn a bulk substrate?

Okay, so my plan is to colonize about 10 1/2 pint BRF cakes to eventually use to spawn a bulk substrate (hpoo or a hpoo mixture). Say I build a monotub to these specifications...

... It's a 35 gallon tub.
My question is, how do I determine how many cakes to use to spawn? Is there a set ratio for 1/2 pint cakes to floor area of bulk substrate? Hope I'm making sense... Thanks for any help.

So you have 2.5 quarts if they all colonize. I would recommend 1:3 spawn to bulk sub ratio. Meaning you would won around 6 quarts of your bulk sub. I really dont think that is going to give you your 3-4 inches of sub depth that you will need. Might wanna see if that is going to be too big.

Would I be better off crumbling my colonized jars into those smaller aluminum pans filled with bulk substrate, further incubating until colonization, then putting them into a large tub made out like a shotgun FC?
Like nsmvusa has done in the pictures in this thread?

That setup looks pretty promising and easy to me. Do you think I would be better off doing it this way? Though I'm wondering how much bulk substrate he has in that aluminum pan though. He says he only used one 1/2 pint cake per pan, so how much do you think it would be?

The previous poster recommended 1:3 ratio, which would be optimal. You can try to use a less optimal ratio, however. The lowest ratio of spawn to substrate that is generally recommended is 1:10.

if hes got 2.5 quarts and does a 1:3 hell have a total of 10 quarts to use.
1 quart spawn +3 bulk
1 quart spawn +3 bulk
.5 quart spawn + 1.5 bulk
right?

ya it would be a total of 10 quarts if he uses the 1:3. I know alot of trusted cultivaters that will use a 1:2 ratio for fast colonization.

So could I apply that ratio if I were to use fruiting trays instead of a monotub? For instance, if I were going to use one 1/2 pint cake in one fruiting tray, I'd use 1.5 pints of substrate for that one 1/2 pint cake? Or if I were using 1 pint of colonized cakes, I'd use 3 pints of bulk substrate?
Is this right?

Went to mail off my order for spores today at my local post office and missed them by 10 minutes  Have to do it tomorrow morning I guess. I was pissed because I really want to get started.. haha
