Eureka Envirosteamer
    #1042675 - 11/11/02 08:59 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

This question has come up before in the "Mushroom Cultivation" forum. I was wondering if the eureka envirosteamer would help to clean a room. Everything I know about sterilization says that it wouldn't work. It puts out steam that is about 200 F. How does steam steralize anything unless it's for an extended period of time? Even then, steam should be at 250-265F, shouldn't it? Would this even do anything to fungal spores?

Steaming is sort of like fumigating. You have to keep the area saturated for an extended period of time, not just pass some steamover it. Lysol is cheap.
They (used to?) use steam to sterilize soil beds for veggies and my source says minimum of 1/2 hour steaming for soil.
