basically i've suffered from bouts of depression my whole life, but only recently have i gained the maturity of mind to actually assess my mental situation
right now i'm pretty sure that i'm caught up in some depression again well, actually it's pretty obvious that i am i think you all probably know the signs so i don't need to spell them out for you apathy, low energy, no sense of meaning, etc
god damn i don't even care enough to type any more title basically says it all anyway -- is there anything i can do? i'd rather this gets better instead of worse

Visualize this....
You're sitting on the couch, trying to figure out what to do next. But, you don't have the will or energy to even get up and do anything...
There's a knock on the door. You get up and answer it thinking it's girlscouts of Iehova witnesses, you open the door. It's the cops.
They tell you you're under arrest, hand cuff you, put you in the car. You have not clue what you have done, but your mind starts racing, considering all the past things that may have caught up with you....
You're pissed, scared, and frustrated.
A cop comes over and get you out of the car and takes the handcuffs off and apologizes and tells you that they had the wrong address and in light of the situation, he gives you his business card and says to call him if you ever need a favor...
They drive away, you return inside. Still visualizing, how would you feel now?

everything in life has its place
first see that, that everything has its place to express & exists in relation to something else, so that means your returning depression is due to something in your life, somethings burning off you don't have to put out the fire, its burning itself off

ps fraggin...
id feel relieved & think i have a weird story to tell my friends!

Id be happy to be not in jail. And porlly not depressed no more.
Any time I get outta jail or away from a cop situation, im thankful that i can go do whatever i want, instead of sittin in jail.

Avoid labeling the emotional/mental/physical state you might have been feeling.. especially avoid labeling it depression.. expect it to be transitory.. become curious about the state rather than judging it.
Explore environmental/physical factors first.. is the body and mind well rested, not stressed, well nourished, well looked after, etc. also looking at the recent environment and people to see if anything has caused annoyance, frustration, anger, etc lately.. if so, discover positive and constructive ways to deal with it in the future.. or discover how to discover if you're not yet sure how..
For you, maybe revisiting an inspirational book or two might be of assistance...
There are plenty of other things you can do to improve your state.. don't worry, things always change. Focus on the state you want and you'll work out a way to get it.. and when you begin to notice your experience is getting brighter and lighter, broader and deeper, seeing your future stretching out mysteriously coaxing you to follow along, taking whoever you want with you, feeling supported as you see the sea of smiles around you, truly learning what it all really means... then you can look back on the bad times as well as the good times and be thankful for having known it all..

I'm depressed, I hate to admit it partly due to the fact that I have no reason to be depressed. I don't have a hard life at all, everythings taken care of and I have no worries yet I'm still depressed and down
I use and abuse speed to make me not feel depressed and weak but powerful and emotionless. It works but I feel the same once in wears off. I wish I knew what to do but I don;t. :

Some good responses.
For me, the antidote to depression is keeping busy doing stuff that improves my situation.
I heard a great quote the other day:
"Depression is the inability to construct a future."
I think it makes a lot of sense. When you start dwelling on the undesirability of where you are, it makes it feel like there is no way to get somewhere better from where you are. So you'll end up thinking too much and doing too little.
A goal, big or small, can be a lifesaver here.

Some basic steps:
* Exercise (very important, especially aerobic) * Eat as healthy as possible (also see http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10415800) * Supplements for health/mood/energy (acetyl-l-carnitine, adaptogens, EFAs, St. John's Wort...) There are so many things, not sure exactly which to suggest. * Consider therapy * Have meaningful goals * Have fun http://www.eightprinciples.com/

Get regular exercise, eat healthy, get a good night's sleep, and try to find an activity that excites you and focus on that.
