fruiting chamber with trays question
    #10412648 - 05/28/09 09:49 AM (15 years, 7 months ago)

Ok I am planning my first shot at this and have decided against the dub tub and also against the mono tub mainly to to my inexperience. Let me just explain what I am thinking and whether its a yay nor ney.

I am working with aluminum trays with black plastic on bottom. I want to put two large, deep (6-8 inch) trays of colonized poo/straw with 1-1.5 inch casing layer in a clear tub with holes and poly. Two holes on the bottom about 5 inches from the side and just above the casing layer, and then another two holes the same alignment but near the top.

Are these hole placements correct? Also how large should the holes be for say a 15-20 gallon tub? No tek really says the hole size is very important. My main purpose in wanting this fruiting chamber is a little less time having to mist, not having to drill a bunch of holes in a tub and the best part ruling out the hassle/maintenance of perlite. Also if I wanted to do a monotub I could with the same tub.

Just a tub, few holes with poly places properly, and two trays properly cased will work as well as one with a bunch of holes in it and perlite? Potential problems? I realize I poly isn't that great for air flow as a bunch of holes so I will fan as needed.

As always thatnks for input.

You decided against proven teks based on your inexperience, and figured you'd be better off inventing something new?

Think that through for a few minutes.

Wow, really this is something new? So you can only use a monotub type design to fruit a tub full of bulk instead of trays full of bulk? You seem to skim thought the post just to leave a worthless comment (which explains your 1600+ posts in two months).

I said I am deciding against methods DUE TO MY inexperience, not based on it. Think about that for a minute. If anything I will got the whole lots of holes and perlite route if I have to. I just think since it is my first time multiple trays in a tub would be wiser instead of one giant bulk in a tub.

Not exactly what I was saying, let me try again.

You're right that using multiple tubs is a good idea. But (IMO) you should use one or another of the teks on this site, that works with the size you are comfortable with. A shotgun FC can be used with trays. Fruiting trays in a monotub with polyfil, probably not as easy.

I know you said you don't want to drill a bunch of holes, but... there you go. You can do it a way that works, or you can do it some other way. I think you'll end up doing a lot of hand fanning if you use poly.

There we go. Much more useful. Thank you.

Thank you for letting me try again.

For a first grow, you might as well do some PF cakes too. Same FC is going to work, and they are fun and easy.

Yea I thought the humidity needed to be a bit less for my trays than the cake but might as well try might not be that big a difference. If I have the room I will definitely thanks.

^correct. You want cakes near 100% humidity, and trays a touch lower. In actual practice, you can use a shotgun for both.

I was thinking of doing the same thing here. Could using a monotub with trays work?? Maybe you micropore tape instead of polyfill?? Just a thought I had and this was really the only post I could find on it. Sorry about posting on this over a month old thread.

i say start slow with cakes or something... you can follow teks to the T and you will still make mistakes. IMO starting small ultimately saves you time when dealing with a larger project later. just my 2 cents =P
