Great stuff. I hope to get down to Rainier this week. Wen, Thurs. I don't have much experience with morels, do you think it would have been dry to long by then for them to still be popping up?

Man, them are some darkies!
Do you eat the snowbank morels?

I take it this was east of the passes? I looked for years on the west side of the cascades with no luck. RR

cowlitz, I think morels will be fairly easy to come by for the next couple weeks at 3000'-5000' on the east slopes. go up to where the snow has recently melted and the ground should be nice and wet even if we don't get any more rain for a while. the areas I was finding them in had small, scattered patches of snow left, should be gone in a couple days.
not aware of any reasonably close/accessible burns in the area landsnorkler, but if I come across any, I will check them out .
never eaten the false morels, but I have seen groups out collecting them.
yup RR, I do all my morel hunting east of the crest...

pics are amazing!!! I understand people eat morels, but they just don't look too appealing to me. Can anyone describe their flavor?

Damn, we missed eachother again Spores! I hope we can sync up at least one of our hunts before the season's over. Anyways, beautiful shots. I was too "morel drunk" to take my eyes off the ground and pull out my camera
I like that pic of the coral fungi. My hunting partner found a big clump and apparently likes to cook it. Never tried any, but they're quite meaty.
I've also heard that a vendor at the Ballard farmers market sells those Gyromitra giga. Never tried them either, but I'd like to (after some thorough cooking).
