Damp Rid pretty much stays in the bucket it comes in, doesn't get out on your stuff.

It is all safe, just don't let the mushrooms touch it. If they are on a rack and it's on the floor of the container, you will have no problems.

Bob,
Hopefully I can help clear up some of your concerns. Silica Gel (the most popular type of Desiccant) can be a powder, granular, or bead type substance. The each got their separate use, but the type we sell are the beads of Silica Gel and these product the least amount of dust particles. These Silica Gel beads packaged in Cotton or Tyvek meed FDA requirements to be used in dry food packaging. Tyvek is by far the most popular choice when using in direct contact with your food items, as Tyvek is more tear resistant and omits nearly no dust particles.
The Silica Gel beads produce little to no dust particles, the only time you might find this producing these dust particles is when the beads are smashed or broken.
Also stay away from the Blue Silica Gel that is "indicating". This Silica Gel contains Cobalt Chloride which has been shown to cause cancer and be a hazard to the environment. Some companies offer Orange Indicating Silica Gel which does not contain Cobalt Chloride.
So to sum up my post, if using Silica Gel in direct contact with food items, use the Silica Gel Packaged in Tyvek.
One more note, I would not recommend finding used packets that you did not purchase yourself and trying to reuse them, especially if you are reusing them with your food items. Who knows where they have been and each manufacture has their own specific reactivation instructions.

white rice can also be used as a cheap, effective, safe desiccant.
