The money you pay for games does not all go to Sony. I'm not even sure if any of it does if the game is made by some 3rd party.

I've seriously had nothing but great things from Sony products and their customer service.
They fixed my PS2, which was part of the first wave of 'em, for free. It lasted 2, maybe 3 years before the laser died (they got hit with a class-action lawsuit on that one) and we only had to pay for shipping, even though my 12 year old, idiot self had once opened the thing up while I was grounded just to see what it looked like.
If you want to get serious about it, talk to your lawyer. If you don't have one that you call for legal advice, get one. Chances are, though, unless you get enough people who've had the same problem (and not settled out-of-court) to join the cause for a class-action lawsuit and get some badass legal representation, you won't get shit.
Like prisoner said, planned obsolescence (a product failing or becoming obsolete after a set amount of time) is how ALL products are going. Have you noticed that? Nothing lasts anymore, because there's more profit for everyone if no one's playing by the rules. Everyone but the consumer, that is.
So bitch and moan and pray until you get what you want, or pay the 150 to get it fixed and renew your fucking warranty.

90 day sounds like the warranty everyone's entitled to under law for free.
You know, 90 days to figure out if the factory fucked up on that specific piece of equipment. Like a machine forgot how tight a screw was supposed to go and cracked a part of the case while taking out some tiny bit of electronics that destabilizes the whole system.
How long did the thing last? And how much do you know about electronics?
Because seriously, I know my laptop has an overheating problem and a manufacturer defect in the sound card, but you know what I did? I dropped 30 dollars on a cheap USB audio interface that bypasses my sound card and 20 on a cooling pad that I use any time I feel it going haywire.
Don't rely on a corporation to fix all your problems. They're all dishonest thieves (who buy out the honest guys. Can't play dirty with an angel right next to you) who'll rape you for every last fucking penny they can.
Just try and pay more attention to shit. And remember that the PS3 (and 360) are pushing the limits for how much of our current technology can be crammed into a tiny space. I'm amazed the shit works for a week, let alone long enough for a warranty to expire.

you guys realise that all this shit is designed to break right? its a marketing technique so the companies make more money. thats why older things last so much longer such as ps1, sega, nintendo, even older refridgerators and washing machines and dryers last so much longer. i still got my refridgerator from before i was born. we bought a new freezer not too long ago and we already called a repair man twice! i denno how long its gonna take you guys to realise of seriously.. how bad your being fucked but its taking too long and these bullshit companies are taking over your life so you have to work more to pay their bills off. have fun with that. these days, every thing is designed to break so the economy keeps on rollin..

That really sucks. I fucking hate sony, every product I've gotten from them had a problem (except my ps2 that thing has stood the test of time). The software they make you use is really crappy also, like INCREDIBLY shitty. I had a minidisc player where you had to use their stupid software interface and I pretty much just didn't even try using it after a month, piece of fucking junk. It's still in a box somewhere.
I am very satisfied with my xbox 360 though. I bought a refurbished premium off of tigerdirect.com for 270 2 years ago and it's still going strong

Years in repair has taught me that a heatgun will peel those stickers wrinkle free for transfer. Swap them HDD's too.

I agree.
Companies should design products that never, ever, EVER break under any circumstance. If SONY makes 8 billions PS3's, all 8 billion should work for eternity without breaking. If any single system breaks, its obviously a "design flaw".

Anybody still play their old Atari?
I went through 4 PS2's when I played them. 3 N64's. Yet I am surprised at how long my PS3 has been kicking. Yes, electronics arent as durable as they were. But thats because they arent as simple as before. You could dropkick your Nintendo games. Does that make them better than Blue Ray? As someone else posted, Sony has shoved alot of technology in there. Theres that much more to go wrong. Its the same with vehicles.

My ps3 fucked up on me.
In order to play some games you need to download a system update. I did and a soon as it rebooted the picture was fucked up!
Sony messed up the system, not me and yet they still want me to pay for that shit! I think I'm switching over to x-box, free lifetime warranties, now that's how to run a company.

XBOX only started tht lifetime warrantly after they admittedly put a faulty product out there. They did not originally come with a lifetime warranty. And I don't think you get a lifetime. It's like 3 yrs I thought. I sold my XBOX after I got it back from the ring of death. I bought my Ps3 while waiting for it. Even though XBOX's customer service was exellent and I got it back quick. My buddy had been waiting on his Ps3 for 4 months. He called the other day and didn't know anything about it. I don't think he will ever get his back and he threw the money out the window.
