Myc or Cobweb?
    #10379754 - 05/22/09 01:18 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Hi folks,

Newbie here.  I have this jar that looks a little suspicious.  It started out with strong and obviously mycelial growth, nice and strandy.  Some of those strands, tho, have taken on a more ominous, "webby" appearance.  Here is a pic:

The bottom of the jar also has two intersecting colonies, one white and rhizomorphic, the other grey and cottony.    I wasn't able to get a clear pic of the bottom, too much glare.  What can you tell me from the pic above?

Best,

Ped

Mycelium, cobweb is a contaminant usually found only in casings.

Good to see you in here veda.

The "webbing" is quite extensive, but the strands are very thick like mycelium.  I've never seen a rhizomorphic strand span 50% of the cirumfrence of a jar, though.  Some of the smaller strands near the dry verm layer have tiny white dots at the edge.  I'll try to get a decent pic, but my camera doesn't do closeups well.
