I may have posted this type of thread a long time ago but I am interested to see if I am a minority.
I don't have anything against jam bands, but they never did much for me personally.
The closest thing I listen to that can be compared to jam bands would probably be live Animal Collective shows- they segue their songs and jam out a lot...............
I'm not making this thread to hate on jam bands, I am just interested to see if there are psychedelic users that don't like jam bands.......
It can make me feel left out sometimes- it seems like knowing about grateful dead and phish is useful for finding psychedelics and marijuana............... but I simply don't care for that music 
~~~~For what it is worth though, I would take jam bands any day over the shit that they play on commercial radio!!

Jam bands don't do anything for me, either. I'm into electro-techno kinda spacey trippy music, as far as for use with psychedelics goes. Ozric Tentacles, in particular.
Although, Ozric Tentacles doesn't fit into my described category so much; they're more instrumental, rather than synthetic music. Look them up.

im not sure if this counts but bob marley is one of my favorites. but saying that i also love energetic club/dance/electro music. everyone lieks different music

Oh, I totally dig on drum circles! Being part of a cyclical energy that just builds on itself while drumming with friends is so addicting & liberating, I love just letting it flow through me and out of my hands to the drum where it continues to build in the circle. It really is like a low-level psychedelic experience, although some have been more potent than others.
Anyway, I digress. In addition to jam bands, I like a wide variety of music. I just don't care for country & hip-hop/rap. So long as it's human beings playing real instruments, I'm willing to give them a listen.

I agree with that ideology on some level! I hate to see a band play songs with no emotion and look like a bunch of robots, that's why I love animal collective! some bands nails the song format though- like the Pixies and Radiohead

I hear that- that's my problem with bands that follow format- it's so lame playing the same exact songs over and over without messing with your songs or creating new music all the time..............
again that's one of the things I love about Animal Collective- before their recent album they were playing the new songs for a year or 2 before the album was released cause they are always making up new songs even when they tour + they like to jam out

As far as psychedelic scene - i find the electronic festival scene to be better.
I don't like traditional jam music at all + found the scene at the jam shows i've been to pretty sketchy/boring/cliche. (basing that off 10,000lkf and rainbow gathering.)
Things like drums and tuba, and medeski martin and wood and soundtribe sector 9 is good shit though...

I'm not sure what a Jam band is but if your talking about like Phish and the Ded then I have to say they they are horrible... I know people are gonna curse me to death but I just think they all are terrible.. I like festivals because it's such a great time. It's fun to camp, party, trip face and meet people but I always bring head phones b/c the music sucks.. Cool culture, great drugs, nice people, but awful music..

I love psychedelics.....but im more of a techno....rave....metal head. I listen to various techno daily as well as bands like Lamb of God, All that Remains, Killswitch engage, coal chamber, Korn, The Union Underground, Acid Bath, Pissing Razors(lol), Butcher Babies, The Agonist, Hed PE.....love double bass.

I haven't read through this whole thread....but I'm just curious can you name as many jam bands as can that you have listened to? Preferably that you have seen live? Just curious...I hope you aren't basing this purely off of the Dead and Phish

good music is good music, regardless of whatever genre you can put it in.
There are grateful dead songs which are masterpieces, musically speaking.
People get hung up on the idea of being "jammy" or not, and sure, the Dead's
best stuff happened in the moment, but it was only so good, when it was good,
because the underlying song structures are rock solid.
I don't see anything wrong with recreating a performance the way a song was recorded. It doesn't seem "robotic" to me, any more robotic than a symphony orchestra playing Mahler movements note for note, filled with the rapturesque qualities of epiphany. It's all in whether or not the musicians are feeling it.

I love jam music in general, be it the dead or phish or jazz or whatever.
In my case it's mostly just that I get bored with music I can predict, since I listen to a lot of music.
Jam bands of course can be predictable too, but at their best the ephemeral and strange side of what they do interests me

Jam bands are okay. I generally listen to old school country and blues, and those songs are only a few minutes long generally. The Dead is decent though, used to be a huge fan.

I used to hate on Jam Bands but after seeing a few live and getting into the scene a little bit I've changed my opinion. There's just something about a group musicians jammin' out and improvising that gets me grooving. Some of em do suck though like the Disco Boscuits imo. But acts like String Cheese, Phish, Umphreys, Moe., STS9, Papadosio, all kick ass.
I'm also into electronic music/dubstep/trippy bass stuff so my music taste is all over the map. If you're not into jam though I would try seeing a live show at least once.

I remember being invited to hang out at a Phish show in Eugene.
Outside, of course, cheap bastard. And not getting it. The music wasnt all that good and I said so and the girl who invited me was like, 'its not really about the music its about hanging out'. Heh.

I've tried to like jam bands but I really just can't get into it. They're ok, some are better than others. Like if I'm at a festival and no better sets are going on, I'll check out a jam band, but I'm never gonna go out and go to a jam band show
I like STS9 the most for jambands. Prob the only one I'm really down with
