The Prince
    #1039586 - 11/09/02 10:24 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

Has anyone found this book written by Niccolo Machiavelli interesting. I know it is a little far off, considering that nobody will be able to inherit or take by force kingdoms anymore, but after reading Sun Tzu's the Art of War I found it to have some good properties to help me look out for #1. Another thing, does anyone know of any other books that would help me look out for myself and strenghten the physical and mental aspects of my being.

You need little more than The Art of War, my son.

I didn't like "The Prince". I found it boring.

I found it interesting, it is very instructive as to the true nature of politics. Behind all the "I feel your pain" and any other B.S. that is thrown at the masses for popular consumption, the true nature of politics is about power - how to get it, how to maintain it, and how to increase it. "The Prince" is timeless in exposing the reality of politics, along with "Animal Farm" by George Orwell, it should be required reading in every civics class.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I beg to differ about the "inheriting" a kingdom these days...i.e. George Bush...I have no doubt that daddy and his henchmen helped get Jr. into office.

As an aside, I will mention that "Animal Farm" is an allegory of the Russian revolution.
