Inocculating with filter disks
    #1039216 - 11/09/02 04:20 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Quick question, when innoculating with filter disks you sterilize the jars and when cooled you unscrew the lid holding the filter and put the syringe hole near the rim and then screw the lid back on? There is a verm layer that will protect against any contams I hope. Is this all correct? Thanks

Yep, your way will work.
You can also lay a second disk on top of the first one after you inject so you don't have to get the injection right on the edge.

I don't do cakes. But, you can do it that way.

Or, put two 1/4 inch holes in the lid. Innoc through one & tape it over.

Or, you can innoc through a single hole, without removing the lid, then cover the lid with a double layer of alcohol swabbed coffee filter & rubber band them -- tight to the jar.

The coffee filters simply protect the top of the jar & act as a barrier -- so no contams can get to the innoc hole in the internal filter disc material.

6T
