The bark of white willow contains salicin, which is a chemical similar to aspirin.

Willow is great to make bows out of for bow drilling, but it sucks as a fireboard/spindle. I've made a tea out of the bark before for headaches. It works pretty well. Willow is also good for collecting straight sticks from, which can be hard to come by in lots of areas. I've used willow to make shelters lots of times.
My experience is with pussy willow specifically. Though this probably isn't the kind of info you were wanting to hear.

When i was 10 i tried to get high off chewing willow bark. It didnt work, just like most of my backyard drug experiments.
But i did make some cool but slightly disgusting natural-fiber rope off what was left

I've never utilized willow fibers much. It's strong when wet, but seems to snap easy when dry. The best cordage is stinging nettle, hemp, or dogsbane.

So, my tenative idea is to take 3 1" dia willow whips, put them in a nice sized planter, and the weave/graft it into a big circular table.

The growing/weaving method takes forever.
If I made a franken-table out of a bunch of adult stalks, you could call it done as soon as the grafts healed.

In fact, being able to make decent sized chimera structures on a whim is my main intrest in the plant.
