tor, puddy, ssh, local snoopers, and a locktite pc

Ok, I have racked my mind and fingers trying to use some extra privacy measures and still am not sure about things. I hope you don't mind helping.
I use a laptop(vista) with wep encrypted wifi. I have installed and am running tor/foxyproxy and everything with that SEEMS good.
I also use refcontrol to never send a refer
I try to keep my cookies and cache cleared as much as i can. I have it set to do it when I close firefox.
I tried to use puddy but finally realized you have to own a ssh host and gave up.
Can anyone think of any extra security measures to keep people from snooping my machine. I want to be lock tight so even if someone spent all day trying to get to my machine they would hate themselves and go back to computer school.
Anything helps, Thank you for reading.

Nobody from a... ahem traditional... school will know much about any of the above topics. Running vista is your biggest setback right now. If you want true security use OpenBSD and never add or modify anything. If you want realistic security then use a frequently updated Linux distribution with SELinix and watch what you install. Since you mentioned SSH hosts, it's worth it to check out cotse.net or megaproxy as they both have reasonable SSH services. Always remember that even if the data is encrypted from your connection to the tunnel, it remains unencrypted at the end.
If you need to keep using windows, disable all unneeded services and use a good antivirus (NOD32 or Kaspersky) and firewall (Outpost?) along with a good router. To top it off you should check out Secunia PSI to make sure your apps stay up-to-date.
PS: one other thing that you can't leave behind for data protection is truecrypt. After that it's all common sense and being cautious.

Ditch vista. The performance savings you get by going with XP will allow you to run a whole disk encryption scheme faster than vista without one.
The one positive thing I can say about vista is that it's so shitty that anyone who knows anything about computers avoids it like the plague so there hasn't been a whole lot of hacking and virus writing for it yet.

Thanks for the help. Gonna hang on to vista until I get some cash flow to buy another computer. Mac OS is appealing.

Make sure you are using full drive encryption, truecrypt sounds good.
You will need something to change your IP, and tor is too slow. Otherwise your real IP is in all the server logs.
Look into getting an account on a ssh host. Its not that hard and they are great to have.
Make sure your screen saver locks after a few minutes.
The Secunia PSI suggestion is excellent. I use that on all my windows boxes. Make sure your router is blocking most incoming packets.
Browse using firefox and install the noscript firefox extension. That will stop most of the drive-by web exploits.

seconding rchtyp, use *bsd or linux if at all possible. os x would also be better than windows.
if you use torbutton instead of foxyproxy firefox will not use a disk cache or store cookies on disk.
