Are you happy with guns everywhere? If guns are banned in your country, do you think they shouldn't be?

I own a air-rifle and i think that it`s great fun and entertainment to make a shooting competition from time to time. But on the second hand if you are not responsible and without imagination you can do a lot of harm to yourself and others. I can`t imagine the world where every person who where rated as sane and have a certain amount of year`s can posses a "sharp" bullet gun, and do anything they wan`t. Gun`s are for smart people. The problem is to identify them.

i have ben stabbed once, mugged 3 times at knife point, and held at gunpoint at a gas station, and some tweeker assholes tried to car jack me. if they were packin they would have got my truck but they werent so they got there skinny asses whooped and arrested! i had my house broken into many times by junkies looking for some drug dealer that lived there years b4 i moved in. i don't run with a bad crowed, i am a pre-med student! half of these happened in a small rural midwestern town, and the other half happened in las vegas. i moved to get away from the freaks and it turns out they are everywhere!
all of this before i was of age to conceal. im 22 and i carry now, and feel far better about it. i dont carry to be a hard ass, i'm a big dude, "5'9'-245lbs" and have a history of boxing. i carry cuz theres sick ass people out there who are also carrying. my whole family carries now, Mom, Dad, Me and my lil bro n sis are going to in a couple years now.
your less likely to have a violent crime commited against you if they think your holding. the bad guys are always gonna have a gun, and by banning them you make the good guy who's carrying to protect his family the bad guy.

A. You're also more likely to be shot mistakenly by a family member. B. If the bad guys aren't allowed to carry guns, then you don't need to. C. If they don't give permits to bad guys, how come so many people die from being shot?

A) Myth propagated by the left. B) Myth based on assumption that bad guys follow gun laws C) So many people dont die from being shot.

I'd like to see gun laws like car laws. Qualify to get a license, mandatory insurance.
But otherwise pretty much up to the individual.
("That only stops legal gun owners!" True, same as cars.)

I'm less concerned about 'bad guys' and more concerned about 'dumbfucks'.
Guy breaking into my house is less likely to shoot me than a friend, neighbor or family member. That's a fact. Of course it depends on where you live and other factors- but there are far more 'friendly' shootings in this country than hostile ones.
Look at Dick Cheney as a quick example.

Yeah ok that must be the most neglegent thing I have ever heard.
I live in florida and every single day on the news there's always a new story of someone who got shot and killed. (watch the spanish news and you'll see more than 1 a day). And these are stories of either muggings, rivalries, mistaken identity driveby, and so on.
Now an accidental shooting from a gun that leads to hospitalization or death news media love to get a hold of those. Yet you do not hear of those everyday on the news, hell you don't even hear of one once a weak either.
For someone to say that your most likely to get shot by a friendly is just full of shit. Hell, even without the news I've known more people that have gotten shot or shot someone than rather of hearing of getting hurt of friendly fire. Friendly fire does happen but not as like your making it seem.

I think gun laws are already becoming too restrictive in some areas in the U.S.
Like others said, even if they are banned outright some criminals will still obtain and use them which I think gives them the upper hand.
Even if it was possible to keep them out of the hands of EVERYONE then violent crimes would just be committed with a different weapon. This only changes the method of harm. Getting shot or getting stabbed, either way can be life-threatening. Say guns are banned and knifes are the most popular weapon, then there is a massive movement for "knife-control"? How far should the government go then? Ban scissors because they are objects that can be used for stabbing?
Do you think you should have the right to defend your property? What will you do when an armed robber breaks through your door and you only have a knife for home defense? Good thing you had such strict gun laws, because now the law breaking intruder has the upper hand and you follow the rules giving you weak protection.
Many enjoy target shooting, clay shooting, hunting, and other gun related hobbies that shouldn't be taken away.

So... you think all laws about cars and driving are stupid and useless? You think that anybody should be able to drive anything anywhere, at any time, without restrictions?
I'd like to see parity between gun ownership laws and automobiles. I'd like the same sort of parity with marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol.
Of course I think you should have the right to defend your property. As I stated in another thread, a shotgun is the best choice for that task. You don't need a .50 cal mounted on your Hummer.

I'm OK with certain common sense regulations. We ought to crack down on black market gun sales, and close any loopholes which allow people to get around registration requirements. But overall, I support the right to keep and bear arms.

I'm fine with not having guns (I live in Canada).

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people" -GTA quote from game radio
Something I think of when I see this discussion is, weapons haven't gotten deadlier in general and yet (edited from homicide rise, yes got that one wrong had it in my head) medical technology has made quantum leaps in technology.
My interpretation from what Lt. Col. Grossman wrote in his book "On Killing", that relates to this. (below)
(To clarify about weapon lethality in close quarters) The most lethal weapon is the shotgun and Quote:
