Some kind of Panaeolus?
    #1037397 - 11/08/02 09:32 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I found these this evening whilst out searching for Libs in the UK. Any help with an ID would be much appreciated.

I suspect they're some kind of panaeolus, but am not 100% on that. They were found on grassland, often growing near piles of sheep dung, but not on the dung it's self. The caps are between 1 and 2 cms, and the spore print is black, or at least extremely dark. The caps lighten to a tan colour as they dry.

And just coz they're pretty...

Take care

Holy shit, thats a lot of pans! And yep, they're Panaeolus of some kind. Panaeolus identifcation has never been one of my strong points, I can tell you the belong in the genus of Panaeolus, but not the exact specits. I'll take a stab at it and say Pan sphinctrus, but don't take my word for it. Because I'm not sure of the exact species, I can't tell you if they're active, but I can tell you they won't kill you. They may give ya some stomach upset and a bad case of diarrhea, but they won't kill you :smirk:

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

It seems that they ar3e mostly all semilanceatas and a few other Panaeolus but i doubt if the Panaeolus are psychoactive. They could be some of the P. strictipus but I have seen libs with variations int heir caps and some become conical to convex to bell shaped like some i uyour picture,
