I have this spread sheet that has the names of all the employees int he company I work for. It is lastname, firstname format. I need to compare them to e-mail addresses we have which is firstinitial-lastname@blabla.com
So I had to use formulas to extract the names the way I wanted it to be. Bottom line is I got what I need, but now I need to sort it alphabetically and I can't. I'm thinking because the actual cells are just formulas and that's why.
Is there a way I can sort the values the formulas retrieve alphabetically?

You can do something like...copy special and do the VALUES of the cells with the names that you want (that's what the formula's got you, right?) Then paste the values into another column and just sort that.

You can set up filters for each column.
Do you have a filter icon?
That way you can filter the results of each column alphabetically or reverse-alphabetically.
You can also make another column so that you can filter employess by their job descriptions.
I am not sure how to set it up, but I have seen forms that were like that.
Your boss should walk you through it, if you ask him/her to show you how to filter your columns.

Would a cheap and nasty pivot table help?

That actually might be the trick. I'll let you know.

He doesn't know, and I have the filters on now, but because the cells are actually formulas that just call the values I can't sort that way.
