Can brown rice flour be substituted with white rice flour in the BRF cake tek???? ive been looking everywhere ive found every kind of flour under the sun but brown rice, seems odd.
Also i was wondering if perlite has ever been used in an actual substrate mix??

No perlite, no white rice. You may be better off grinding your own brown rice.

I don't know, but if it worked, everybody would use it because it is cheaper and easier to find.

Use brown rice flour. Follow the tek, it's worth it.

Yes it has. The now ancient "Guide to Growing Magic Mushrooms" mentions it being used in BRF cakes. I would recommend sticking to a modern TEK though. The ratios of verm to brf are well established (if doing cakes). Don't get too creative.

verm is used because it absorbs moisture that the mushrooms can then use later. perolite absorbs NO moisture, it just has a very large surface area which means it can be coated with a lot of water that will evaporate relatively quickly. they cant be interchanged.
and brown rice flower is best, im pretty sure it has a wider range of nutrients then white.

ok yea. i ended up going directly back to a different store and got 3 bags of brown rice flour. Also i know what perlite is and what it does, i was just curious to see if it had ever been used as a substrate successfully. i have no problem finding verm in my area. So im all set on both ends now. thanks for all the help.

Yeah, what I always did was take regular brown rice, threw it in the "MAGIC BULLET," and Prestooo. Brown Rice Four. I never noticed a difference between the two when it came to growing.

Brown rice is unpolished white rice. Brown rice is polished to strip the bran from the kernel. There are two reasons for polishing rice 1. It cooks faster than rice with the bran still on it. 2. The rice is fluffier
The layer with the bran holds the most nutrients of the rice which is why you should always use brown. You may get something off of white but nowhere near what you will on brown

Do it like I do and many people already said it: Buy the brown rice and smash it into a blender.
