They maybe drying out... 88F is a bit too warm... the center of the jars will be even warmer by a few more degrees. Lower the temp down to 84F and see if they do better. (Not that it will help if they have gotten too dry already, but next time I guess.) Could also be a contaminate... penicillium would be my first guess.
