must read the cosmic serpent by jeremy narby.
it chronicles the time an anthropologist spends with a shaman in peru. he offers some startling theses with not much scientific evidence but still a great read.

The gift for making science personally significant to the reader, the poetic ability to explain the complex, and the way he made lofty ideas digestible without overly simplifying them is rare to find. You can't go wrong with this guy (and if it adds any appeal, he did some cannabis and LSD and thought they were freakin' great, though he was a very very infrequent user.)
this thread is brilliant. i can't wait to get a hold of many of these books and just blaze through em!

I've finished PiHKAL and I'm half way through TiHKAL. Both are incredible books and both have influenced my own thoughts quite a bit. I definitely recommend them.
i thought those books were just descriptions of the different phens and stuff. is there more to them than that?
Yeah its about Sasha & Ann Shulgin's life. Its a very nice story regarding their trips and how they came to be together. Its nice to see beyond the chemistry and to get an insight into the type of people who are pioneering in this field.
You can read both books on erowid for free, but I highly recommend buying them, cause they story itself is fricking awesome (let alone all the chemical pornography ).
