drowned casing
    #1035441 - 11/08/02 10:08 AM (15 years, 9 months ago)

Ok, I fucked up. I asked a friend to mist a straw/coir casing for me thinking that this person knew what "mist" meant. When I came home the casing looked as though it was watered with a garden hose. The coir was absolutely saturated. Not knowing what to do I left it alone for a few days. The casing has dried out a little but only a few scrany pins have managed to poke up along the edge.

Is there any way to save this casing?

not sure about contams ,, but you could try wicking water out of the casing with paper towel??? or poke a hole at the bottom of the tray to see if water is dripping out of it, if not, you just have ALOT of water, not a flood!

Try throwing in some "barely" moistened verm , if you are lucky it will absorb some of the excessive moisture and utilize it later .
Tell your friend he lost his mushie rights !

Good advice, but I can't poke a hole in the bottom. It's one of my wifes' "good" bread pans.   My friend swears that the substrate was not drenched, so I just removed the wet coir that I could and replaced it with some slightly drier coir. I'll let it air out for awhile and hopefully that will do the trick.

Hold the casing in with one hand and tip the container with the other and the water will drain out.
