Hiding away a grow box in an apartment

Hi all,
I am planning on doing my first grow, a small personal grow, using one syringe of spores via the PF Tek method.
I live in an apartment complex, so I would like to hide away my growing from friends and my landlord and basically everyone. I have closet space, but the closets do not have locks. I have read that occasionally landlords go through apartments for routine inspections, so I am worried that if I install a locking doorknob on the closet that may look suspicious. Is this a legitimate worry?
... Or is there a better way I can hide away my grow box? Are there smaller containers than the one shown in the video that I could use? And, finally, how would you recommend concealing such a thing? (By the way, I appreciate the creative methods of using hollowed-out computer cases and the like, but I would rather stick to cheaper, easier, and more conventional methods in hiding the grow box.)

Go with a closet.. Only you can decide if your landlord is going to check your closets.. Nobody here can determine that.. Theres a really good stealth closet thread on here I just read.. Here it is check it out. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4024838/an/0/page/0

Thanks, but that looks a bit more large scale than what I am planning on doing.

You have no right to privacy in your apartment. Your landlord can go in as he or she so pleases. Your landlord can also give consent to the police to search your apartment.
My buddy has a fish tank and grows his mushies underneath the stand. You hear all the air bubblers and see the powercord, but underneath is fruity fun!

I would go with a monotub.. They just look like a storeage tote and you can put it anywhere in the apartment... Soo read about then on here. Goodluck!

I have a hard time keeping a goldfish alive for more than a week, so the fish tank option isn't really viable.
I am thinking of getting a lockable container of some sort. Would a 26"x18"x18" storage box be sufficient? I have read that mushrooms need air flow while fruiting, so would keeping them locked up hinder the growth process?

Will I be able to fit a tub in those dimensions I listed? In the PF Tek video it looks like they use a much larger tub.

pf tek is for minimum mushrooms... it would be better if you are going for more to just as easily do casings or even easier poo... u can order it all offline... i really think it is just as easy if not more than pf tek... and u get wayyy more...

unfortunately this is the case in the United States. The propeprty owner has full rights to do whatever they please. This of course might be different in your lease, but most pre-drawn leases are made to give the apartment owner more power than the tenant.
I've lived in quite a few states, and in apartments from tiny 1-off's to giant corporate complexes and have never seen a lease that didn't give the property owner permission to enter at will. And even if it states otherwise, they still hold the right.
Best advise is to get a gun, or a dog.
They might be able to enter your home, but might not want to.

Don't know what state you're talking about, but it's not the case in most of the US.

Hardly. Generally they can enter to do maintenance after giving 48 hours notice. Or if it's an emergency, like a broken pipe.

The lease can say that the owner can shit on your head twice a day. That doesn't make it legal for him to do so.

Again, the lease can say whatever they want it to. There's still laws on what they can and can't do.
And if they want to come in and you don't let them (changed locks, won't allow in, etc.) there's not much they can do other than say you violated the lease and start the eviction process.
You can then say you didn't get the required notice and bind them up in court for some time.
I personally find it much easier just to tell new landlords that my girlfriend and I like to lounge around the house naked and remind them that they better give plenty of notice if they're coming over and that if they can't get ahold of me they better just wait.
I also like to tell them what an avid hunter I am and to show them some of my guns. I make a special point to show them that I keep 8 1/2 dove load, a slug, and a buckshot load near my shotgun for "home defence". They especially like to hear that the dove load is a warning shot just in case it turns out to be a drunken friend, cause I don't mind an accidental maiming or blinding but I'd hate to kill someone on accident.
It probably wouldn't hurt to throw in some of your political views, like "they'll get my guns when they pry them from my cold, dead hands."

A Dog so they have to give ya a fair warning they are coming so they don't lose their arm and the dog will make them not wanna check your place out anyway (unless its a poodle).

Kramer v. Kramer taught me that tenants have an arsenal of rights at their disposal. Pretty much as fastfred already pointed out, changing the locks doesn't give the landlord the right to break the door down, instead they have to play the waiting game.

Here they have to give posted 24hr notice minimum before entering, even for things like bug spraying. The only time they can come right in is for emergencies.

Exactly. Tenancy law trumps any lease agreement.
All tenancy laws I have seen require at least 24 hours advanced notice and consent of the tenant to enter an apartment. Unless it's an emergency.
Also they certainly can't allow police to enter your rented property without your consent, or a search warrant.
