Couple questions about mushroom tea.

How long does the tea's effects normally last? Would I be down in 2 hours with lingering after effects if normally I would trip for about 3 from eating them? What is the best way to store the tea? Refridgerated?

Is mushroom tea an accepted method of ingesting mushrooms? Heat breaks down psilocybin reducing potency. and before ppl say potency loss is minimal DOESNT CHANGE THE FACT THAT POTENCY DOES DECREASE, so how would you prepare this?

Boil water, immerse powder, let stand 10-20 mins, ingest.
Some people prefer to add some ascorbic acid due to its antioxidant properties.

If the tea is consumed while still hot it should retain all noticeable potency.
Store it in the fridge and don't wait to long. You want it fresh.

i wouldn't keep the tea in the fridge much longer than 24 hours, 48 at the absolute most. if you want to keep it longer than that put it in the freezer. if you've got a lot of it break it up into smaller batches and freeze them in separate containers - small plastic drink bottles work well.
to make tea we usually just chuck all of the fresh mushrooms in a saucepan with enough water to cover them, bring to the boil and simmer for 30 minutes. then strain mushrooms out and consume, start small (30ml) to gauge appropriate dosage.
for me tea lasts for around 3-4 hours solid tripping with an additional 3 hours to be back to normal

I was reading this recipe for tea http://www.shroomery.org/6270/Best-Possible-Mushroom-Tea-Recipe
and was wondering about the time to keep the mushroom powder in the hot water. Is 5 minutes long enough for all of the psilocybin to be transferred from the mushrooms into the water?
Once you strain it, youre just drinking the water and throwing out the junk right? Cant you just keep the powder (which will be a gunky mess) and eat those too? Or would that be a waste of time?
Any experiences as to how long you should stir the mushrooms to completely get all the psilocybin extracted?

wether there is any Psilo left in them or not, I personally can not bring myself to just toss out mushrooms. so i personally would eat the "Gooey mess"
but also, i personally just eat my shrooms. I throw a handfull in my mouth and chew em up the best i possibbly can and then i start swishing them around rapidly in my mouth and through my teeth like mouthwash, then swallow. then i like to take another nice little pinch and chew them up a little and stick them between my bottom lip and gums like dip. suck the juices out for awhile untill i feel like swallowing. gets me EVERYTIME.

ok..... Since obviously no one in this thread has ever prepared .... erm.... any kind of tea.
It isnt as complicated as it seems.
Mushroom Tea Recipe : ==========
Bring water to a boil.
Remove from heat. I usually let stand for a few minutes....... Not trying to boil the shrooms.
Dump in finely chopped/ground shrooms. Or tea bag them.
Let it sit and soak for around 15 mins.
Drink.
===============
Thats it!
Optionally.
You can either eat the leftover mush. Or, throw it away.
You can stir occasionally if you want to.
Add lemon juice( helps with extraction ) Add honey ( helps with flavor ) Add any other various "tea" components for flavor.
Which ever way you do it.... if your shrooms arent garbage to begin with.... you will get high.
It tastes.... shroomy. Additives help a lot if you are sensitive to taste. Tea is a prefered method for a lot of folks who get bad nausea from shroom chunks.
Tea is great for socializing.... AKA invite friends over, pass around some potent concoction of psychedelia, Enjoy.
A common "disagreement" with Shrooms Tea is "loss of potency. Well, If you dont have to pay for shrooms. This shouldnt be an issue at all....
And even if you do pay.... you should probably try it once in your life. I personally dont think there is any great loss of potency, plus, tea usually comes on faster. So...... the trade off is fair in my opinion.

The taste of the tea is almost nothing. Go buy some herbal teas like chamomile ect... Just make like Shad0w said but add a teabag or two with the magic. You can sweeten it with honey or sugar (honey is better).
With one of the main points of the tea being loss of nausea. There would be no point in eating the leftover powder. It will only make you ill.

I make a tea out of anything more than an eighth an ounce. Bring water to a boil, turn off heat, toss in mushrooms, wait 20 minutes, consume. Easy as pie and has never failed me.

I took mushroom tea to burning man once... I froze 20 oz. bottles solid, then put them in an ice chest and tried to keep it cool the rest of the week. It was still good 2 weeks later when I drank it.
...Boy, was that fuckin fun...
Good luck..

What color -should- it be?
Hmmm..... I dunno really, Mine is usually greyish/purplish if dried.... and a pretty blue color if fresh.
Really have no idea what color it is supposed to be tho, Never seen a pic, or a cup I didnt make myself....
Drink it. If it gets you high. It is supposed to be whatever color it is.

Yeah, yellow, brown, purple/blue...
All of the above should be good. Just don't leave the heat on too long or too high. I have wasted about 50 mushrooms in a tea before...

I disagree with this completely. I do not think making tea decreases potency one bit. Not even a little. Eat the same amount you drink in tea and if anything the tea is more intense because of the quick come up. But until this can be proven I say making tea results in zero potency loss.

would using a tea ball filled with dried shrooms instead of a tea bag hinder the extraction process at all?

You can use mycelium to make tea but most people say its not worth the effort.
What would your plan for getting that much mycelium be anyway?
