Why Not Full Time Light?
    #1033451 - 11/07/02 08:06 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Popular opinion states 12/12 light schedule, but my question is--- why? Has anyone tried full time light on shrooms... if not, Swim will be happy to be the first to experiment... any comments?

Shrooms don't need light to grow, only to know which direction to grow so there is really no benefit to full time light. There is no harm either, but why waste electricity?

Since mycellium *use* light to know when it has reached the surface of the soil, it would seem to me that experimenting with a 24 hour light through the pinning stage might produce more pins.

go ahead and try it...

Look, shrooms are NOT plants, they ONLY need light to know which way is up.

Think of pinning as a "state" that the mycellium is in. The light triggers that state, and only a breif amount is needed.

I think the 12/12 hour schedule is only suggested to mimic nature. I dont even use a regular light schedule. The lights on when the lights on, which is when im in the room. If i leave for long time I'll open the blinds or something.
