The FDA is horridly corrupt. It is a close call between them and Congress taking the top seat for the most corrupt organization in the US government with military procurement being a close third. One of the primary reasons why healthcare is so expensive in the US is because the FDA protected the profit margins of Big Pharm and the medical industry.
And the artificial limitations on the number of healthcare practitioners.
We'd be better with a free market, or at least stated standards for drugs and healthcare providers and private enforcment of those rights.
Why give the rights to enforce the law to the government?

according to the bush administration, yes, bush said if you use drugs then you're a supporting terrorism, since the FDA promotes drugs over food, they're a terrorist organization, I rank them as more dangerous than Al Qaida and even worse then Mohamar Quadaffi with his line of death... dont cross it!

OK, boys and girls, lets do some magic. We can turn anything into a drug by making claims that it can treat disease or promote health. Will a lime a day provide enough vitamin C to treat scurvy? Yes. Voila! Limes are a drug. If the farmers or grocery stores were to speak such truth, the FDA would step in and treat limes like valium. Why? Because they can.
A reasonable person would look at the research on oats and cholesterol and conclude that oats might help the average person lower their LDL. There are hundreds of studies on oats in general, and a few on Cheerios in particular.
That isn't good enough for the FDA - they demand $300 million of research, adverse events tracking, etc. Perhaps appropriate for new pharmaceuticals. Not appropriate for foods.

Ya know the funny thing about Cheerios is that if you were to make your own oatmeal/porridge for cheaper you would have more of the benefits they claim from their product. I'm not taking the FDA's side though. I remember discussing selling traditional medicinal mushrooms with listing their medicinal benefits with someone on here and after looking at how the FDA treats them I would wonder if they weren't right to be scared out of it. I mean if Cheerios can't say oats lower cholesterol on their box then... well there'd be no hope.

I'm making porridge right now for breakfast with a box of quick oats. It's got a big "lowers cholesterol" thing on the front
Over here cheerios are a kind of sausage for kids, I'm assuming it's a different thing

I still fail to see how this is "terrorism"
I would think terrorism is something along the lines of the use of violence against non-combatants in order to advance ideological goals.

The FDA doesn't want anyone to claim that substances that are not drugs can have health benefits.
This is part of making America dumb and unhealthy.
Sodium fluoride is a confirmed neuro toxin. Why would any government push to put it in water supplies?

The difference between US and Aussie cheerios:
 Lowers cholesterol
 DOES NOT lower cholesterol

There's a fine art to making porridge. One mistake and you get wallpaper-glue or oat-soup.

I'm tempted to say no there's not, but I have a knack for cooking.
Seriously, even with sausages that I'm unfamiliar with the meat content, cooking over a campfire, in a pot, in the dark (the flames were dying down to embers) I still cooked them to perfection. No carbonification.
I've eaten underdone porridge before, which is why I cook it myself.

I do it in the microwave now, with precisely-measured oats and milk and I get pretty darn consistent results. It's coming up to winter down here which means porridge season for me
The bee lab at work is selling honey. I think $5/litre which is really cheap... plus then I can say I'm having honey from a research lab
I think... I think this means the thread has run its course?
